Cooling towers are one of the most important aspects of an industry. It not only helps in the seamless procedure of manufacturing, but also contributes to the safety of the manpower and property in a great way. While setting up a cooling tower of an industry, utmost care must be taken to ensure an accurate functionality. However, the maintenance of the same is also of high importance to increase the efficiency and maintain the proper functionality. There are numerous industrial cooling tower manufacturers in India but a comprehensive analysis must be done to get the most from the investment.

Analyzing the Performance of the Cooling Towers

The analysis of the performance of the cooling towers is of high importance to understand the efficiency and the outcome from it. In order to complete the activity effectively, the cooling ton hours are to be calibrated on a regular basis. The cooling ton hour refers to the one-ton cooling obtained over a period of one hour time. The cooling capacity and application profile of the setup leads to an appropriate measurement of the cooling ton-hour. With the help of this principle, the water, chemical, and energy usage can be quantified which helps in evaluating the system performance. The other utility of the cooling tower is to measure the overall building cooling proficiency while scrutinizing the usage of air-side economizers, chillers, and water-side economizers.

Performance of the Cooling Towers

The performance of a cooling tower depends upon the four factors. They are as follows:

  • Heat Load- The heat load and dimension of the cooling tower is directly proportional to each other.
  • Range- It refers to the change in the temperature of the hot water invading and the cold water exiting the tower. The efficiency of the cooling tower can be determined by the high cooling tower range, which is measured depending on the process and not on the cooling tower.
  • Ambient wet bulb temperature (RH) - It is one of the main contributors to the performance of the evaporating cooling towers. It is analyzed by veiling the bulb of a thermometer with a drenched cloth.
  • Approach- It is the difference in the temperature between the Wet Bulb Temperature (WBT) and the exiting cooling water temperature. The approach and the size of the cooling tower are inversely proportional to each other. It can also be considered as the decider of the size of the cooling tower.

How are Heat Load, Range, and Flow Related with Each Other?

The elevation in heat load increases the range as well as the flow, which leads to two possible outcomes. One is an economic way, which can be done by elevating the temperature of inlet water and maintaining a fixed outlet water temperature. The second way is to keep the inlet water temperature fixed and decreasing the leaving cooling water temperature, which is uneconomical as it leads to the depletion of approach.

Conclusion

The industrial cooling tower manufactures in India design the towers keeping all the aforementioned factors into account. If all the factors are maintained in an appropriate manner then the efficiency of the cooling tower also elevates to a great extent.
