Types of Boiling Ring Hose Assembly and Accessories

Boiling rings are energy directors of heat. Heat is produced when a fuel (generally propane or LPG -liquefied petroleum gas) is ignited. They are used similar to gas stoves and gas burners. In burners the heat energy is directed in one essential direction what is termed as linear whereas for the purpose of cooking the heat energy is directed radially to the cooking pot which is kept on top of the flame. The fuel is transferred through pipes or from a cylinder where the LPG is stored. The LPG then travels through boiling ring hose assembly where the fuel is ignited by application of a flame. 

1. Hose

For connecting a boiling ring to a LPG cylinder the assembly consists of a 2 meter length of high pressure orange hose that has a diameter of 8mm (millimetre). These are manufactured to strict specifications. This hose is double walled and reinforced. Prior to 1975 the external wall was colored black. The hose is now colored orange for easy identification. The hose is flexible. The inner hose has a thin LPG resistant tube that is covered by metallic braiding. This is covered externally by a rubber outer sheath that enables quick fitting and decoupling when required. As these hoses are manufactured under strict guidelines the life of the hose is very long. However care must be taken and periodic checks will help in proper safety procedures.

2. LPG or butane adaptor or regulator

These adaptors have a valve that acts as a safety contraption. When gas is not required simply turning off the valve will suffice.Adaptors or regulators are available depending on the pressure that will be delivered to the boiling ring or burner. Commercial kitchens require high pressure whereas a domestic connection would require medium pressure. All regulators are adjustable. The pressure can be varied. Regulators are also available as a single stage and double stage. In a single stage type fuel supply is by one step. In a double stage fuel supply is a two-step process. This allows reduction in the flow of fuel.

3. The hose is connected to the adaptor by means of a worm screw clip and the other end of the hose is connected to the boiling ring connector via another worm clip.

Boiling ring accessories like hose, adaptors and worm clips are sold as a kit. The items are manufactured to set specifications. 

Boiling rings are mostly used for outside catering. There might arisesituations where neglect or improperly situated workplace could lead to a potential hazardous condition. 

Ensure that connections are secure and worm clips are tightened to the correct pressure. Checking the hose should be a norm. Boiling rings should be cleaned after every use so that it is ready for the next event and any possible damage is seen.
