Tricks & Shortcuts in SSC Maths for Easy calculation

by TheTube Guru SBI IBPS PO Clerk Faculty

Maths is tough when it takes long. Longer the calculation time taken, tougher the Maths. The competitive exams in India are mainly based on SSC Maths. To crack down the competition and get better in your ranking system, you need ramp up your speed and accuracy in maths. Maths is an essential subject and most common area in many competitive exams starting right from clerical level to the higher management examinations like CAT for IIM-MBA (Common Admission Test).

Here are some cool tips and tricks that make maths easy and simple to cut down your calculation time by sticking to the basics.

Let’s start these tips & tricks by squaring the numbers.

Squaring the Numbers

The simple trick is that you need to change the equation and sort the units digit to zero. It is quite easy for multiplication when units are in 0s.

Example:

Find square for 44

= (44+4) × (44-4) + (4×4)

= (48×40) + 16

= (480×4) + 16

= 1920 + 16 = 1936

Hence, 44 x 44 = 1936.

You can cross check the answer using the calculator.

Multiplying the numbers

Multiplication is the most complex aspect in the maths as you end getting very higher numbers as solutions and can’t even predict whether the answer right or wrong.

Make the multiplication easy during the exams to save time.

Let’s multiply the number with 5 using a short cut.

Simply multiply any given number by 10 and half the result by dividing it by 2.

Example:

95 x 5 is the equation.

Let’s multiply the number by 10 as it is quite easy to get the result.

95 x 10 = 950

Now divide the answer by the number 2.

950/2 = 475. See, the result. It is as simple as that if you break down single tough equation to two simple equations.

Let’s multiply the number with 99 using a simple trick.

Take the given number and simply multiply it with 100 and subtract the same given number from the obtained result.

Let’s assume the given number is 31.

Multiply 31 with 100 first.

31 x 100 = 3100. Now subtract 3100 by the given number 31

3100 – 31 = 3069.

Cross check the result by using the calculator.

Now comes the time & work section where the maximum problems in the maths subject are given from.

Example:

Ravi takes 10 days to complete construction of 10 feet wall. Pradeep takes 20 days to construct the wall of the same size. How many days does it take to complete the construction of same if they construction the same sized wall together?

Solution:

First calculate the work efficiency of the both people individually.

Ravi's efficiency

Ravi takes 10 days for 10 feet wall, which means her constructs 1 foot of wall per day.

Pradeep's efficiency

Pradeep takes 20 days for 10 feet wall, which means her constructs 1/2 foot of wall per day.

Both Ravi and Pradeep can construct 1.5 feet of the wall per day when they work together.

So they can construct the whole wall in 10 days/1.5 feet per day = 6.66 days or can be written as

6 days and 18hrs.

These Maths Tricks for fast calculation, Short tricks of maths for SSC can improve your knowledge and efficiency to move forward in education and as well as in life.
