When planning a flight and searching for the lowest prices, make sure you check the official website for each airline that has flights to your destination. Although low fares are found on websites like Kayak and Travelocity, often the best price is found on the official website of the airline. 

When driving or taking a plane with a toddler, it is important to have enough interesting things with you to occupy your toddler during the long trip.  Try to bring some of your child's favorite toys.  It is also nice to purchase at least one new toy for the trip, since this will be a complete novelty and will keep your little one's attention, for a longer period of time.

If you are traveling overseas, always have local currency in a variety of denominations. It is much easier to be ripped off by a taxi driver or shopkeeper if the smallest bill in your wallet represents a week's or even month's profit. Small change can sometimes be difficult to come by, so hang onto your coins when you get them.

Look at your health insurance policy to determine what the coverage is when you travel outside your own country.  Chances are high that at some point, you will travel past your own borders.  There is every possibility that you will need health care while you are away.  Does your policy cover the cost of any health care you might need?  You should know the answer to that question before you ever set foot across the border.

If you are worried about traveling with a large carry-on bag, plan ahead. Airlines usually board in groups of five or ten rows, so pick a seat in row 11 or 21, not row 19. Also, as soon as the airline calls the seat block ahead of you, go get in line. This way you're waiting at the front instead of the back.
