Tips on selecting a wood stove

by Mohit Jain Professional SEO Expert
Even as the use of wood stoves begins to regain popularity, the greatest challenge that most people face is deciding what type of stove is ideal for their home. While there are a number of varieties to choose from, the bottom line is that they all are very energy efficient and of course safe to use. These stoves don’t produce as much ash or smoke as most people would want to imagine and they also consume very little in terms of fuel. There is no better way to spend a winter evening than sitting around a wood stove with your family to enjoy the warmth and each others company without having to worry about the expected energy bill.

There are several important things you need to consider before you go out to shop for your wood stove. Some of the considerations you will have to make will include things such as the design and style, the amount of space in square feet you plan to warm, how long the stove should burn when on a low setting, whether this will be the only source of heat in the house or it will be complementing something else without forgetting its emission ratings and efficiency. You may also be aware that some regions have regulations regarding the type of wood stoves you can use and that is also going to be an important element to consider.

There are all manner of designs when it comes to wood stoves and you can choose between the traditional to contemporary or from the classic to aesthetic. There are those that come with beautifully showcased glass doors while others are mainly made to function and that is all. Any buyer will also have to select a stove based on the material used since they can be made from porcelain, steel, cast iron, soapstone or a sometimes a combination of any of these materials. The current brand of wood stove are made in such a way that they burn economically coming with advanced features that promote complete combustion; talk about features like insulated baffles, firebox insulation, primary and secondary air heating etc. to name just but a few.

The basic form of technology used for the best wood stove is what they call advanced combustion. This is a feature that allows the stove to create the right conditions in which it burns combustion gases. The main element in this feature is lining the firebox in such a way that it can maintain the required temperature; this is a device that allows that stove to send combustion gases back into the flame with the result being a complete burning and heating of all air supplies while still ensuring that there is enough oxygen to keep the high temperature.

The other important feature you may want to consider is how long this stove can burn when put on a low setting, especially when you are using it as the primary source of home heating. There are newer varieties of stoves that are capable of providing at least 20 hours of continuous heating using just one single load of wood. However, if you will be using your wood stove as a complimentary source of heating, you could choose those that burn for between 6 to 20 hours as it will serve you quite well.
