The Pirelli’s Cyber Car Technology will Deliver Tyre Information to Drivers

by Tacy Jones Tacy Jones

Pirelli’s ‘Cyber Car’ is a new technology that will help a car talk to its tyres and send the information directly to the driver.

More precisely, this technology rests with Pirelli’s products that you can use as your car tyres in Wolverhampton. The Pirelli cyber tyre will deliver information about its performance and conditiondirectly to the driver thereby becoming more beneficial and help the car owner adhere to the law.

According to Pirelli, the company researchers and scientists have been going after the technology for producing intelligent tyres for some time now. This company has filed around 300 patents and has partnered with Berkeley Wireless Research Center and Milan Polytechnic Foundation to create the same.

Features at a glance

Pirelli’s Cyber Car technology will provide the following information:

  1. Tyre ID

The Tyre ID includes all the data of a car tyre like its size, pressure, load capacity, production location, date manufactured, etc. The Tyre ID can also inform a local garage that you have encountered a flat. Rather than visiting a garage, you will be able to receive service at your location eliminating all the hassles.

It can also inform drivers when to change the tyres. For example, summer tyres need to be swappedin the winter, and drivers will receive a notification regarding the same.

  1. Downward force and static vertical load

The tyre will inform a driver about its downward force and static vertical load. When it comes to electric cars, these two can have a significant contribution toa car battery and how long it can run. An electric car can provide an estimation of the battery runtime by knowing the former’s precise weight.

How will it work?

Car tyres with this technology will have a sensor fitted inside them. This will monitor pressure and temperature in real-time. Not only this, but tyres will also deliver information about wear and tear.

The company says that they have worked with several car manufacturers around the world for integrating this system. They are optimistic that the first car fitted with the Cyber Car technology will be in markets within the next year.

Car manufacturers can select what data they want to deliver to drivers. They can also choose how they want to provide such information – either through an app or car dashboard or both.

Pirelli Connesso

Pirelli Connesso is a technology similar to Cyber Car, but only available to Pirelli tyres. When tested on a Porsche 911, the system altered the driver when tyre temperatures crossed 60°C.

However, the Pirelli Connessotechnology is yet to come to Europe. As of now, this technology is only available in the US.

Pirelli says that both of these technologies are still under consistent improvement and development. They are always adding new features and modifications that can make them more beneficial to the drivers.

Hence, you will have to wait a bit for both Pirelli Connesso and Cyber Car technology to be available in your local car garage.
