Suiting Your Style: Traditional versus Contemporary:

by Rick Gray Writer

Kitchens say a lot about personal style and of course you want it to reflect the tastefulness and pride of the homeowner. This can be achieved with the right style of kitchen remodeling that speaks for you. Styles are limitless. Romantic, regent, old world, retro and country just to name a few, but the most lasting and enduring styles tend to be traditional and contemporary (or modern). Each style differentiates in characteristics and overall tone. Just in case you weren’t sure of the difference between the two, here’s a brief description of both styles.

A traditional kitchen remodel is exactly what it sounds like. A cozy -like, inviting atmosphere that begs for visitors to hang-out, relax and give compliments to the host! This style usually incorporates detailed wood trim, crown moldings and other ornate architectural details. This along with decorative lighting, lively colors and fabrics as well as defined period furniture and decor will bring the kitchen together for a timeless classic. A traditional kitchen remodel will give one a lot of free reign with creativity and decoration options.

A modern kitchen remodel involves a lot of simple, clean lines for a new, fresh look. Think minimalist and chic. This is normally accomplished with a lot of stainless steel appliances and simple color schemes. A modern style kitchen can certainly be described as consistent with typical sleek countertops, an emphasis on hardware and very few embellishments and trimmings. A modern style kitchen has the potential to be stark and bright simultaneously and can be a practical style  for many homes.

Both styles have its own kind of uniqueness. Each possesses various elements that can be altered or combined to build your dream kitchen.  Weighing the options is sure to be tough.  Contemporary is open, modest and up-to-date, whereas a traditional style kitchen is more eclectic and warm. Keep in mind that kitchens come in all shapes and sizes and  whichever style you decide to commit to can be customized to suit you perfectly. Kitchen remodeling trends are constantly changing so its best to lay out all your ideas with a professional to see what ideas and customizations work best for a home.
