Christmas Lighting
Safety Tips
Replace Old/Damaged
Lights
Inspect the condition of last year’s Christmas lights before
plug-in. Minutely check, if there is any crack or wires are poking through the
insulation or not. It is little tedious work, but it will save you or your
family member from the electrical shock whenever you switch on the light.
Switch To LED Lights
If you are planning to buy lights for this year, then go for
LED lighting with epoxy lenses. In comparison of traditional lights, LED are
very cool to the touch and of course less electricity is consumed. Traditional
lights are overheated early, but LED lights could prevent from catching fire on
your Christmas tree. Most remarkable is LED
light fixtures will cut your electricity bill.
Artificial Trees
Instead of buying real Christmas tree, go for artificial
tree. Before buying an artificial tree, read instructions that is it certified
as heat resistant of not. Moreover, you don’t need to buy every year. It will
keep your healthy.
Use Indoor &
Outdoor Lights
Before purchasing lights, read it’s usage also. Some lights
are only made for indoor usage, some are made for outdoor usage or some made
for both type of usage. Don’t use indoor lights for outside decoration as these
lights aren’t insulated to work with outdoor moisture. If indoor lights are in
direct contact of water, snow or any other outdoor element, they could be
hazardous for you at the time of festival.
Use Ladders
Use ladders safely to hang Christmas lights as falls are
highest injury during this holiday season. It is better to use ladder, if
someone of your family member or friend is available there to help you. If no
one is there to help you with, have a spotter with you to hold the ladder for
stability. As prevention, while hanging Christmas light off the rood, never
extend your body further than parallel with the ladder. As a safe side, use
wooden or fiberglass ladder while working with Christmas lights.
Christmas Light Clips
Don’t use nails or screws to hang outdoor lighting on your roof. As these screws or nails can puncture wires and may shock the
person who is installing it. Instead of it, you can easily find light clips
from hardware store to hand lights on the roof. Light clips are safer and cause
less damage to your roof.
From the above tips, you get the idea that LED lights could be easy to maintain & save your energy bill, eliminate the chance of fire and how to get prevention from electric shock. Have a happy and safe Christmas to you and your family.
