Purpose of Cornice and Window Treatment

A cornice is a horizontal decorative molding, generally around the top edge of the house, windows and doors. It is basically made of wood in most cases which is molded into a shape with defined design pattern. It is positioned above the door or window frame. They can also be used on the sides of the windows too. And windows and doors are not the only place where cornice is made; they are also made on the corner of the walls and edge of the building.

What is the purpose of Cornice?

The main benefit of a cornice is to enhance the overall beauty of the house. Cornice can also be used as a sink gutter on the top edge of the home; they are known as cornice sink gutter. Since, it is placed on the top of the roof; it is not only used for adding beauty to the house but also helps in diverting rain water to different area.

Cornice Window treatment:

The cornice window treatments differ from window to window, since no two windows are the same. Size of the window is very important but also is the type of window that is being treated. The normal rule is that it can extend from around five up to a maximum of ten inches out from the frame of the window itself.

For window treatments of cornices; flat wooden style is one of the most popular of all the types. Cornice covered with fabric is also quite popular these days and with the help of these two, the cornice base is covered with the fabric material of thick type and is tightly wrapped around the base. When someone will look at the cornice, they will not see what the base is made of but only the fabric that is covered in.

Another idea for cornice window is to have the cornice shaped at the bottom. You can have a plain and straight bottom to the cornice. However, curved bottoms can really make any window look good give it a really modern and trendy look.
