Overview of Indian Handicraft Industry

In the year 2012-13, Indian handicraft stood at 3.3 billion US dollars. Indian handicraft goes back to the ancient times and although India has been a part of the constant evolution, the handicrafts are still made with the overall aesthetic of ancient India. They consist of furniture, ornaments, crockery, jewelry etc. from the past centuries. It promises all the aspects like form, style, beauty and dignity. The fascinating appeal of Indian civilization combining with its diversity; makes everything more appealing.

Experience the culture and history of India with its architecture and handicraft. Indian artisans make the various arrays of hand crafted masterpieces. The amazing hand skills of the artisans reflect in the crafted products they make. And since all products are made by hand, no two pieces are similar to one another; this is the beauty of handicraft items that they add uniqueness to the home.

India is a diverse country with many religions and beliefs. And the evolution of such has resulted in portrait of resulted sculpture of God and Goddesses as well as religious symbols out of which the most exported and widely used symbol is ‘OM’

Evolution of Handicrafts:

Since the beginning of 16th century A.D., the handicrafts have evolved with high perfection and skills. The artisans continued to learn the craftsmanship generation after generation, and the trend continues even now, where in many families, one skilled artisan teaches his next generation and  the tradition became a significant part of our lifestyle. In those times, people who belonged to the lower caste worked hard to enhance their craft so that they could make a living.
