Navratri 2017 - An Auspicious time to Worship Nine Goddess

India is a country with diverse culture and tradition. Every state of the nation celebrates various festivals and each of them makes them unique with style and pomp. Indians celebrate many festivals depending on its historical and mythological connections and Navratri is one of the famous and auspiciously celebrated all over the nation. Navratri festival is celebrated with huge devotion for continuous nine days and nine incarnations of Aadi Shakti is worshiped during these days. There are lot of rituals, which are associated with Navratri festivals some of them are Ghatsthapana, Durga Puja, fasting for nine days, reciting mantras & shlokas and Durga visarjan etc.

 

Navratri is celebrated five times in a complete year but two navratris are very famous, which are known as Chaitra navratri and Sharad navratri. During these two navratris, devotees invoke the goddess at home by performing the Ghatsthapana rituals and then worship nine goddess at home with full devotion, pure mind and heart. Devotees recite Durga aarti, Durga Chalisa, Durga Saptshati path, Durga Kavach and chanted various mantras related to nine goddess. It is believed that who perform this puja with pure heart he or she get the blessing of nine goddess and at the end get the moksha.

 

When is Navratri in 2017 ?

Navratri is a festival celebrated for nine days in the month of March-April and September-October and people prepare for it in advance. During Sharad Navratri, different forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped for nine days and on the tenth day, Dussehra festival is celebrated while during the Chaitra Navratri tenth day is celebrated as Ram Navami. During March or April, Chaitra Navratri or Vasant Navratri is celebrated while during the month of September or October, Sharad navratri is celebrated. During both navratri, same forms of goddess Durga are worshiped for nine days. During all nine days, devotees wake up early in the morning, take bathe, worship particular goddess and visit to temple for prayer too.

 

Navratri Nine Goddess:

In Hindu Community, Navratri is considered the most important and sacred days to worship Goddess Durga. During Navratri, devotees perform special worship of Maa Bhagwati to learn Siddhis and get blessings.

Navratri First Day Devi - Shailputri Maa

 

Navratri Second Day Devi - Brahmacharini Maa

 

Navratri Third Day Devi - Chandraghanta Maa

 

Navratri Fourth Day Devi - Kushmanda Maa

 

Navratri Fifth Day Devi - Skand Mata

 

Navratri Sixth Day Devi - Katyayani Maa

 

Navratri Seventh Day Devi - Kalratri Maa

During navratri, some people keep fast for nine days while some for first day and eighth day. Keeping fast for nine days is very hard because devotees need to follow some strict rules such as people can not use salt, wheat flour, vegetables and many ingredients for preparing dishes. Before breaking their fast, people worship nine small girls, offer meals and give them gifts.
