MSP Needed In the Olympics

MSP; Managing Successful Programmes is used all over the world in some of the largest corporations globally. Therefore it is no surprise that it is being implemented in the London Olympics this year! The Olympics has been all over the news recently due to the mistakes and problems the security company have been having. Therefore it is crucial for a successful methodology to be put in place; preferably one in the name of MSP.

Programme management is essential in all industries but also large projects which are taking place such as the Olympics. A programme is made up of specific projects which combined together will reach the end objective of the programme. The objectives or goals of the company will be put at a strategic level in order for the company or organisation to gain improvement or profit from the change.

There is a close link between programme management and project management. This is because programme management is made up of projects and therefore MSP practitioners are taught throughout the MSP training course the ability to manage small projects in order to control the programme in hand. A programme and a project are very different things. The Olympics is seen as a programme and not a project due to its size; which is very large! MSP which is the profession which is most trained in this area provides an administrative structure for managing these kinds of programmes in line with the way the UK government believe is the best way.

During MSP courses delegates are taught that before they begin to take on the programme they must complete a programme definition document. This is to demonstrate what you have prepared yourself to do, before you have been approved to begin running the programme. Therefore you must prove yourself to be competent enough to carry out the responsibilities for the programme at hand.

Many would argue this is where G4S went wrong with their involvement in the Olympics. They had not prepared themselves for the task at hand or proven with sufficient evidence that they were able to do this. Thus they were lacking the capabilities which are taught through the MSP certification.

MSP is one of the most professional programme management qualifications out there at the moment, all companies who are planning large programmes or projects desire someone who has accomplished the MSP course.

Hopefully there is still time for those in charge of the Olympics to find a qualified MSP who has the ability to manage the programme and create a success of it.

When the phrase MSP is mentioned there is one word which comes to mind and that is; professional.
