Marvel wanted to get studios for the making of superhero films in the 1990s before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but somehow it could not happen. Marvel wanted to work with superheroes like Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Deathlok, and more. At that time, DC was the major rival of Marvel because Marvel was struggling for a studio of their own. Marvel’s ambitious plans are the primary reason for their great success.

Here we will discuss some MCU movies that almost happened in the 1990s.

James Cameron’s Spider-Man Would Have Been Insane

Marvel wanted to make a movie on Spider-Man in 1990 because the X-Men and the Spider-Man were the most famous brands of Marvel. Carolco Pictures had the film rights for Spider-Man, and they wanted to write a story on college-going Peter Parker by the renowned writer Barry Cohen. Still, he was replaced with another famous writer and director, James Cameron. James shared his script for Spider-Man, but it was not good enough to get to the big screen, and hence it remained unmade.

The X-Men Could Have Come A Decade Early

Marvel wanted to make a film on the X-Men, but Carolco Pictures wanted to make a Wolverine and the X-Men movie, where the actor Bob Hoskins would have played the role of Wolverine and Angela Bassett as Storm. It would be a project of James Cameron, but he was distracted by Stan Lee to produce a film on Spider-Man instead. With the result, the X-Men had to wait for several years till Fox purchased the rights of the X-Men.

Iron Man Wound Up In A Holding Pattern

The Iron Man of the team Avengers is a critical superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he was not given a chance in the ‘90s. Jeff Vintar and Stan Lee wanted to make a film on Iron Man, but it had to wound up.

Stan Lee And Sam Raimi Pitched A Thor Film

Stan Lee had been looking for Marvel movies for quite a long time, and in 1991 he approached Sam Raimi to work together on making a film, Thor. They both worked together in writing the script of the film and pitched Fox, but they denied producing and releasing their movie.

Wesley Snipes Was Keen To Play Black Panther

Wesley Snipes had been waiting for the role of Black Panther. Snipes became excited to know about the idea of playing the role of T’Challa. Snipes thought it would be a great hit, but he was not able to pitch Black Panther as a superhero, and the plan was abandoned.

Doctor Strange Was A Full Horror-Style Feature

In the year 1990, Marvel wanted to make a supernatural horror film with Doctor Strange. Stan Lee and Alex Cox teamed up to make this movie and had a distribution deal with Warner Bros., but they were involved in a dispute with Marvel, and with the result, Doctor Strange had to wait for more years.

Brigitte Nielsen Could Have Become She-Hulk

Fans will see She-Hulk, who is the cousin of the Hulk, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe very soon. In the year 1990, a film was proposed, She-Hulk, in which the actress Brigitte Nielsen was signed to play the role of Jade Giantess. The director of the movie was Larry Cohen, but somehow this project also remained in the scripts.

Marvel Even Considered A Deathlok Movie

Marvel wanted to team up with Randall Frakes to work together on a Deathlok movie. Deathlok is a cybernetic super-soldier. His film with Marvel would have been a great hit, but this project was unknowingly dumped.
