In home care for the elderly and seniors!

by Care Indeed Care indeed
In home care has become a much more practical option for those who may fear the idea of going into a care home as they age. I would highly recommend for others to consider it as an alternative option for the care of their senior or elderly relative.

My Mother’s Situation

My mother has slowed down noticeable in the last couple of years. She’s quite lucky that at the age of 83 she hasn’t had any issues with any life threatening problems that others have suffered with around her, however she is starting to show early signs of Dementia. Whilst it’s not been officially diagnosed by the doctor, the symptoms are very similar to those her sister suffered with about 10 years ago.

At the moment she’s okay, as she’s still more than capable of pottering about the house without any assistance. She is also perfectly proficient at doing the day to day tasks like bathing and clothing herself. She even drives up the road to the local supermarket every now and then to do her shopping, and occasionally meet up with her friends for a coffee. Yes in hind sight she’s doing really well considering her age! Although, I can’t help but think about the support she might need, should her memory continue to deteriorate. If I remember correctly it wasn’t until her sister started to become a danger to herself that action needed to be taken. Watching her sister go into a care home, has given my mother a fear of them and she constantly reminds me about how she “would rather die than go into care”. Surprisingly that seems to be a mutual feeling for the majority of people her age, which is madness given how nice some of the care homes are.

Due to this I have had a look at other options like in home care, where someone can come out to her and help her with the day to day tasks. It will probably start with simple things like making sure she’s getting a decent meal, and also making sure she is taking her medication for her blood pressure. This sounds like an ideal option for my mother as she is a creature of comfort, and would prefer someone looking after her in her own environment, where she feels most at ease.

Looking at home care for elderly and seniors there’s actually quite a few options out there. I particularly liked one care provider called Care Indeed. I just like the way they have highlighted “it’s about restoring independence, not taking it away”! This is perfect for my mother particularly as she can be stubborn at the best of times. I also loved how they come across really friendly and caring, and made a point about companionship between the care giver and the person in need. I will definitely be approaching them when the time comes, but for now I’m more than happy to let my mother go about her business as she pleases.
