Somehow, you heard...or, more likely, you got a text message: Two of your favorite people are getting married, and you couldn't be happier! Sending an engagement card is the next step after hearing the big news.

It doesn't have to be difficult to congratulate a couple on their engagement. To help you along the way, Hovik Harutyunyan and Alexis Dent have teamed up with us. Here's everything you need to know about writing an engagement congratulations card

Etiquette for engagement cards

Let's talk about etiquette before we discuss how to write an engagement card. Don't make an awkward faux pas when giving warm regards to the newlyweds. Instead, ensure your engagement card is on point by following these expert tips.

  • Be sure to send the engagement card as soon as possible.

Take your time. When the couple is still basking in the celebration, Harutyunyan advises sending the card within one to two months of hearing the news.

  • Choose a quality card.

Engagements are huge deals, so they deserve to be splurged on. Harutyunyan advises handwriting your card to make it extra special. You should also invest in a quality paper card brand such as Papyrus or Crane to mark such a special occasion."

  • It is inappropriate to use the couple's married titles.

Because grooms-to-be are not yet officially married, it is still customary to address them as 'Mr.' and brides-to-be as 'Ms.' However, to the Future Mr. & Mrs./Mr., you can address the envelope in a fun and modern way. Dear Mr./Mrs. For gender-inclusivity, you can address it as 'To the Happily Engaged Couple,' 'To my favorite love birds/soulmates/life partners/couple,' or 'To the Newlyweds-to-be."

  • Send the card to one of them.

It's okay to send your card directly to the person you know best when the couple doesn't live together. However, congratulating them on their wedding is not proper etiquette. "Both partners should receive wedding cards."

  • Avoid making awkward assumptions.

One of the worst mistakes you can make is jumping to conclusions. Be careful not to assume that you are invited," warns Harutyunyan. Likewise, the couple should not be pressured by assumptions about their wedding plans or guest list.

In conclusion

Speaking from the heart will make your engagement card writing process easier than you think. Your kind gesture will be appreciated and remembered by the happy couple as long as you are sincere.
