How to Reinstall Loose Tiles on Wall

by Sarah B. Marketing Writer | Thinker | Environmentalist

Tiles on wall are a great way to enhance the look of your room. Wall tiles don’t just make your wall stronger,  but also ease the cleaning and maintenance. In addition to that, they do not require painting- just like cement-mortar wall does.

Although tiles are strong and durable and they add a sense of substance to your wall, there are times when wall tiles lose the grip they have on mortar and pop out.

If the wall tile has fell down and broken, then you will need to check with your supplier regarding the availability of replacement tiles. If they do not have replacements to fit into your requirement, you will need to redo the complete wall – which will cost you dollars.

If the popped up tile is loose, there is still a way you can fix or reinstall it. In this blog, we will learn how to reinstall loose wall tiles. Check out the following pointers –

  • If the tile is moving, your first step will be to take it out carefully, without damaging it. For this, you will need to use a slightly blunt, slightly sharp knife to create cut marks and draw some lines on the grout around the loose tile. Once the grout is out, you will need a chisel and hammer to take out the tile. Do not use the hammer forcefully.
  • If the tile has already come out, start the reinstallation process by cleaning the space where it was installed earlier.
  • You will need knife, chisel, hammer, brush, broom, and vacuum to perform this exercise.
  • Remove the thin set or grout from the tile back as well. Wash it well if required. Let it dry before reinstallation.
  • Chip away the old thin set mortar and clean the space making sure that there is no loose dirt and debris.
  • Prepare the thin set mortar as required.
  • Take and evenly spread the mortar on the tile back.
  • Press it into the space gently.
  • Remove the excessive mortar.
  • Grout the tile.
  • Let it set for the duration recommended by the manufacturer.
