How to Protect a Microsoft Project with Password?

Steps to create password for a Microsoft Project

Step 1

First of all, you have to click on the "Start" button that you can locate in the bottom-left corner on your desktop or Windows button according to the Windows version you are using. For latest version like Windows 8, press Windows key and then search and open Project.

Step 2:

Now, click on "Programs" or "All Programs," then scroll up or down to find "Microsoft Office," then choose "Microsoft Project" from there.

Step 3:

Once the Project opens, click on the "File" menu option found at the top of the window, then choose "New" from the menu to create a new project or you can click on the "Open" option to open any previous project.

Step 4:

After opening a new file, again click on the "File" menu option located at window's top section, then choose the "Save As" option.

Step 5:

Now, in the "Save As" window, choose the "Tools" button found at the top, then choose "General Options."

Step 6:

After this, simply enter a password into the text field located beside "Protection password" option to forbid people from opening the file or provide a password in the field located beside "Write reservation password" option to forbid people from modifying or editing the file. Next, click on "OK" to complete the procedure.

Step 7:

Now, you have to provide a name for the file by entering it beside the “Name" in "Save As" window. Finally, choose a location to save the file and click on "Save" button to complete it.

That's it, now your Microsoft Project has been password protected; no one without required authentication can access your file.
