How to Create a Positive Home Education Experience

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment
There isn’t a more exciting time in a child’s life than when they are learning new concepts and ideas about the world around them.  The best part of this -- the teacher is also their parent. The decision to homeschool allows parents to be directly involved and impactful with their child starting with kindergarten up through 5th grade. Starting in middle school, parents and students can decide if they want to transition over to the full-time online teachers or wait until 8th grade to do this. However, the early years are the most important because this is when students form their opinion about learning and whether or not they consider school a positive experience.

Parents can help with this development when they do the Florida homeschool programs which provide a solid foundation of introducing and building ideas in a logical order through a print option for the younger grades. The program gives parents a lesson plan for each subject so they know how much the child should be doing each day so they can finish within a traditional school year. Lesson plans are a guideline, but they can be modified according to the family’s personal schedule which provides flexibility and allows parents to incorporate other activities outside of the textbooks.

Learning takes place in multiple forms, not just within books and, in fact, for younger children, hands-on experience is a great way to bring the concepts to life for them. In conjunction with the top first grade curriculum, parents should schedule field trips, experiments, and other activities that align with the things they are learning in math, science, history and other subjects. Another reason to engage in these events is to prevent the student from getting bored with school which can have a negative impact on their experience.

Elementary students are between the ages of 6-11 and are growing, developing habits and want to be active.  So sitting in a classroom, even at home, for hours each day is not only difficult but can create problems with the lessons. Bored students start to look for other things to do, so parents have to find ways to keep them engaged. This can be done by balancing breaks with study time. The curriculum should be entertaining and informative so it is a good idea to review this before committing to a program.  Check out samples and see how the curriculum will help your child want to learn.

Families are busy and the commitment to homeschool children is a significant one, especially in the beginning when parents are the primary teacher and principal.  Yet, it is a rewarding approach as relationships are built and developed. Other tips to help create a positive experience for young students is to make the study area fun, allow them to personalize their work space or purchase backpacks which keep them organized and provide a little bit of fun in the process. When searching for the best homeschool program, check for a system that works for all the grades so the student can stick with the same school until graduation which is stabilizing and allows them to follow concepts from beginning to end within the same curriculum.
