How to choose the best DTH provider

by Digital d2h Alag hi view
With increased competition in the DTH space, more and more DTH providers have begun offering more features, HD channels, and better services. Given this fact, there is hardly any simple way in which you can determine which provider is better for you, as almost all of them tend to offer similar services and performance. However, on the basis of entry price point, monthly costs, channel packages, multi-TV discounts, and HD services, you may be able to choose the right provider.

How to choose the best DTH provider

The Channels Offered

One of the most popular ways used by DTH providers to entice consumers is by advertising a large number of channels. While this may seem quite attractive, here are some things that you should consider:

  • What are the channels that are included in a basic package or are free, and how often are new channels added to the same?
  • In the number of channels advertised, how many are regional channels? Do you want these regional channels?
  • How many of these channels are interactive or HD?

Basically, even if there are a huge number of channels that the provider offers, you need to think about whether or not you need those channels. Don’t be swayed simply by the numbers!

The Packages They Offer

While you can always go for the a-la-carte selection of channels, it is obvious that a channel package will be a better deal on a month to month basis. Here are the questions you need to consider:

  • Which package offers the channels that you need?
  • Do you need any sports/lifestyle packages and how much do they cost?
  • Is it easy to switch between two different package plans?
  • Are new channels added automatically to your existing package?

About the Installation Process

Make sure that the provider discloses all the installation charges at the time of booking or purchasing the connection; then take the following into consideration:
Are you being charged extra for installation after you have made the purchase?

  • What was the turnaround time for installation after you had put in the request?
  • Do the charges cover the cost of clips and coax cables?
  • What are relocation charges, if any?

Choosing the Connection

If you have an HD TV, it makes sense to opt for an HD connection and set top box. Also, you should know that HD channels cost extra. Then, there are some DTH providers that offer 3D-ready set top boxes. But, you should think hard about your needs, the availability of actual 3D content, etc. before you decide to go for this feature.

Find Out about DTH Portability

There are very few providers that offer the option of DTH portability. It may not be that important a feature for most people, but some may prefer it. Think about whether or not you actually need the feature before you simply opt for it.

Recording Capabilities

Many providers also offer a DVR or Digital Video Recorder box, apart from the standard set top box. With this feature, you cannot just watch TV normally, but also pause and resume live TV as and when you require. You also have the option to record programmes and even rewind live TV up to a certain point.

There are numerous features that DTH providers are offering these days, but instead of getting confused about the offerings and choosing the provider with the largest number of features, you should take some time and think about whether you need those features or not before you choose the provider.
