Every day millions of people upload their personal information on social media or online. People love to share their memories with the world. We spend our time online most of the time in a day. But ever thought who is watching us?? Is our identity or information safe online? Not only our name, pictures, occupation and all but also our major details like bank information credit card details are also not secure.

What is identity theft?

 

Identity Theft is one kind of scam or you can say server crime that people are doing every day.  If you are losing your personal data like username, password, banking details, social security number, then you must a victim of identity thefts online. Hackers not only steal your personal data but also government bodies, business database, organizations, and institutions.

Here are some simple rules you can follow and protect your identity.

1.Protection: We all precaution is better than cure or you can say protection is better than cure. Make sure your computer or smartphone must have up to date security software and that has to be a strong one.  If it is not then you provide the key to the criminals to your online actions. You help them to steal your identity from your device so it is your responsibility to make it up to date.

2.Gain some knowledge on spam and scam:

It is also known as a phishing scam. There are several types of phishing scams. Some are easy to identify but some are not.  You must see some unknown links or ids on your emails or there are some advertisements on your social media or some icon like social media. Never ever click on that.  Instead of the shortcut, go to the browser and then proceed.

 

3.Offers of unlimited internet plans: Who doesn’t love anything unlimited? But don’t you think it can make trouble for you. People do love broadband offers as well. Most of the people are using unlimited home wifi plan at their home and unlimited internet plans in their smartphone device. But this can harm your personal identity and information. You must be aware of the unnecessary advertisements and notification when you browse something on your device. Don’t fall for those traps and never allow any ad or notification on your device. One can look for some of the best broadband offers.

 

4. Watch out on your credit score: Keep the track of the scores on your credit card. Always check the bill after using it. If you cannot get any track of where you spend your money, then you must block it.

 

5.Secure online purchase: We love to do online shopping but there are millions of website who are fraud. Do not go for those. Just make sure you are purchasing from a secure site.

Recovering from identity theft can give you lemons. There are people who can recover it easily but most of the people or organization cannot. There are unlimited home wifi plans available. It can cost you hundreds of dollars and take months to recover. It’s your responsibility to be safe.
