How The Cloud Enhances Your Dedicated Server

by Vijay Singh Khatri Product Manager

Introduction

Today business has become more agile and has flexible demands that keep on changing with time. This will create a serious issue if you outgrow your current Virtual service providers. Currently, every business is expanding with a great online presence and hosting their data on the server. There are two types of hosting servers- cloud servers and dedicated servers. Where cloud server is a virtual server that allows you to process and store applications while a dedicated server is dedicated to an individual and is not shared by others. Both servers have their advantages and disadvantages in different aspects, but choosing one of them is a difficult task.

Before getting into which one to choose we will discuss what are cloud servers and dedicated servers.

Cloud servers

Cloud servers are virtual spaces where you can store, process, and access your stored data. It allows you to enhance your IT performance without unnecessary infrastructure expense. Any organization which is dealing with variable workload and resource demands can go for cloud servers as they are extremely flexible when it comes to scalability.

Cloud servers can be a single server or a group of servers that are interlinked together to perform various tasks. These tasks may be replicated to different servers to maintain resiliency and ensure fault-tolerance. It ensures security and efficient performance which is mostly managed by the third-party teams. One of the key benefits of using a cloud server is cost-efficiency, you only have to pay for the requested services and resources.

Dedicated servers

Unlike cloud servers, dedicated servers are the physically located space either in-premise or any other location. It will store the data close enough to overcome the uptime in processing the requests via cloud servers. As the data is stored locally it ensures complete data security as you have complete control over how to access and who can access the data.

Dedicated servers can be purchased or rented out based on contracts thus can be expensive to you. It requires to set up complete infrastructure with hardware and software. These servers are commonly used by large companies that require high-end data security.

Need to move to the cloud

Well, most of the business is moving to the cloud to ease their workload and ensure more flexibility for the people to access and process the stored data. This may not be possible if you are stuck to a dedicated server. Cloud server gives you the freedom of working and accessing data from anywhere and anytime. But the question is why your business needs to be moved to a cloud server as a dedicated server also provides you almost the same functionality. There can be many reasons but to manage the rapidly changing needs of the business as the technology is changing can only be met with cloud servers in a faster way.

It solves many downfalls of a dedicated server and ensures high performance.

How The Cloud Enhances Your Dedicated Server?

Adopting cloud servers proves to be beneficial for small enterprises as they are the one who faces most of the challenges like a budget constraint, expanded IT support, on-premise infrastructure, and software. Below are the benefits and reasons that influence you to adopt a cloud server rather than a dedicated server.

  • Security- storing data on cloud servers will protect your data from accidental loss or any other malicious activity. But having dedicated servers allows your system to be protected from cybercrime like threats but you have to implement other security in place above that. If you consider working with a cloud server then migrating data to the cloud protects sensitive data with resources that are beyond the scope of measures that can be implemented on local networks. Also, with a cloud server, your data will be handled with an experienced IT team with the latest security tools and technology or with 2-factor authentication.

  • Scalability and flexibility- the cloud offers public cloud and customized cloud services that are designed to meet changing business needs to provide a scalable solution. The public cloud offers services that can be shared by multiple users provided by the same remote host while the private cloud is dedicated to a single user. With business growth, the demands will change over time and it requires more resources. These changing needs can only be managed by cloud servers.

  • Instant data backups- with cloud servers you do not have to worry about data backups, all these are managed by the third-party IT team. The data will be available to you in case of emergency but with a dedicated server, you have to manage the data at your risk.

  • Cost-efficiency- cloud servers will charge your business only for the services and resources that you are using but dedicated servers will need the complete infrastructure and data center to be maintained at a physical location that requires initial investment which can increase over time due to expanding business needs.

  • Centralized collaboration- as cloud services provide centralized data that can be accessed by many users at a time. This increased team performance as they all can access the same data at the same time and helps them to work together on a project. This will improve team productivity.

Conclusion

Which server to choose depends on your business needs and goals. Cloud servers tend to be beneficial for all size businesses, especially small enterprises. It offers immense benefits to the business with continuously changing demands and the need to store expanding data.

Implementing a cloud server will give you the options for public, private, and hybrid cloud that can be customized as per your requirement of services and resources. It comes with a cost-effective solution that is a plus point for small-scale businesses. So select your provider or third-party hosting facility to start your business and keep growing.
