How Can Story-Telling Help Lead Generation In Malaysia?

by Dara Lin Consultant

How do you become successful when conducting a lead generation campaign in Malaysia? It is based on your ability to tell a great story. Sounds cliché? Not exactly. This is just a reflection of human behavior. We tend to gravitate towards those that attract our attention. And it is the same case when generating B2B leads. Business prospects become more responsive when they hear a story that strikes a chord in them. Once we have their attention, it becomes a simple matter to turn prospects into qualified sales leads. But how will you tell a good story? What are the things that you should put in? Can your own telemarketing team do it?

1. Be simple – simplicity is the latest sexy, that is how the market sees product or service presentations. You might have the flashiest accompaniments in your pitch, but if all of that drowns the core meaning of your talk (your business offer), then you will achieve nothing at all. Think of how Steve Jobs presented his products. They are simple, not that much flashy, but they all carry an explosive force. This is something that you should emulate as well.

2. Be holistic – when presenting a story during your appointment setting campaign, you should appeal to people who are both emotional and rational thinkers. When painting an emotional picture to your sympathetic listeners, pepper it with facts and figures that rational thinkers will love.  In this way, you get to present yourself to a wider audience.

3. Be interactive – in a telemarketing campaign, you should not make your pitch a one-sided affair. Change the way you present things based on the reaction or statements of your prospects.

4. Be authentic – if there is one thing that business prospects do not want to hear, it is a story that they see as a fake. As a rule, when using a narrative to anchor your sales pitch, you need to base it on a real story, one that prospects can relate to. Whether you present it well or not is immaterial at this juncture. What matters is that you tell the story that is as real to them as to you.

    5. Be complete – a narrative should not be left ‘hanging’ at the end. To be more effective, it must have not just a beginning, but also a middle part, and a conclusion. While keeping things incomplete can be used to hype up a product or service to be offered, remember that you are still generating sales leads at this point. You need to show proof that you can actually deliver.

These are rather easy tips, but you will be surprised at how few the numbers of marketers that uses them. Putting these in the perspective of lead generation in Malaysia, you will be sure that these are a necessity. It also helps if you also have a marketing expert helping you in the task. Doing things on your own may be good, but it is a wise investment to outsource your appointment setting campaign to an agency that knows how to do it best.
