Here is a list of top valves commonly used in the oil and gas industries that you should know about. 

•    ARV or ARC valves
These valves are the acronyms for 'Automatic Recirculation Valve' and 'Automatic Recirculation Control', which are multifunctional. However, the primary purpose of these valves is to ensure a minimum flow through centrifugal pump at all times. They also help in valve automation process.

•    Bellow sealed valves
These are mainly of two types, the welded and forged versions. Made from a thin wall of foil in a tube, the forged bellows are fusion welded longitudinally. On the other hand the welded versions are made using washer-like plates of thin metal together, welding them at both outer and inner circumference of the washers. These valves are commonly used in globe or gate designs.

•    Ball valves
These types of valve are used to control the flow through a ball shaped disk. If the valve in this ball valve is open, it allows the content to pass easily as the holes in the ball stay in line with the body inlet.

Made of materials such as several metallic and Teflon, these valves can operate in extreme temperatures- as high as 500 degree C and as low as 200 degree C.

•    Gate valves
These valves are significant when there is a need of straight line flow with minimum restriction. The Gate valve is kept either fully closed or open and is designed to start or stop a flow.

When it is open, the contents can easily pass as the disc of the gate opens. Also, this gives good shut-off properties to the valve and can’t be opened or closed quickly. When open, this valve is sensitive to vibration.
