FSSAI Labelling & Packaging Regulations

These regulations have to ensure the food articles are secure and safe. These principles specify the standards for every single substance to be used for packaging and labeling. Some of those regulations are described below:

 FSSAI Regulations for packaging:

     An FBO need to ensure that the utensil or container used for planning, packaging, keeping food articles are free of any rust or oxidation, it is not chipped or rusty if it is enameled and is properly tinned if it's a copper or a brass container.

     If the container is constructed from vinyl then the material that is plastic have to have various IS0 Certifications. For instance, polyethylene container has to be IS: 10146 certified, polystyrene substance be IS: 10142 accredited and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material need to be IS: 10151 accredited.

     For Canned products, an FBO need to make sure that all the cans are sealed and packed, free of dents, rust, perforations and seam distortions and can be free of any leaks.

     For milk and milk products, the bottling and filling ought to be done mechanically and sealing of milk containers need to be accomplished automatically. The wrapping and packaging should be performed in such a way that the milk doesn't come with bacterial or fungal organisms.

     For packaging of oil, the discs used for tin containers should conform to BIS 13955 or even Standards 1993 or even 9025 or even 13954.

     For canned packaging of fruits and vegetables, the tin used need to be appropriate, it should be packed in such a way that it could not be opened without tearing the FSSAI License no. And special identification mark of the manufacturer.

     For packaging of meat, the lacquer used to line the inside of the tin may need to be resistant to Sulphur and shouldn't be soluble in brine or fat. The meat have to be sealed and processed keeping in view the commercial conditions of transport and storage.

     For packaging of drinking water, then it need to be packed in clean, sterile, translucent and tamperproof bottles and containers, made of polyethylene and conforming to IS:10146 or even IS:10151 for Polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

     The tagging of any food product need to be in English or Hindi just, it should not be described or presented in ways which is false, untrue, deceptive or likely to make impressions in the consumer's brain.

     The Permit number and the FSSAI Logo should be displayed on the food packet. The title on the packet have to be authorized by FSSAI, ingredients' information should be listed in order of their proportionate weight or volume.

     FBO will display the quantity of both ingredients in the food package, if a food package is a mixture of two components.

     The info such as energy value in Kilo Calorie, quantity of protein, carbohydrate, sugar and vitamins need to be displayed per serving on the food packet or per 100 ml, as per100 g.

     In the event the food is prepared using any kind of food additives such as acidity regulators, anticaking agent, antioxidant retention agent, emulsifier salt, firming agent etc, it ought to be clearly mentioned on the food packet.
