Different Skin Treatment Options

by Dr. William J. McClure Napa Solano Plastic Surgery

Looking good and feeling good about ourselves is important, no matter how old we are. We often feel “younger than we look”, and this can be frustrating for someone who is trying to fight the signs of aging. While stopping the aging process is just not possible, we can certainly reduce those visible signs of aging with certain procedures. A youthful appearance can help you to feel revitalized and more confident in your day to day life. Several factors can cause a person’s face to look older:

  • Exposure to sunlight
  • Alcohol and Smoking
  • Poor diet and lack of exercise
  • Drug use
  • High-stress levels
  • Continuous lack of proper rest

While some of these variables can be avoided, others are simply just a part of life. And if you notice that your face is beginning to look older than your age, Napa Solano Plastic Surgery offers a procedure called TCA peel (trichloroacetic acid), more commonly referred to as “chemical peel”.

A chemical peel is a non-invasive procedure that is designed to rejuvenate the appearance of your face. It is useful when tackling the following signs of aging/skin problems:

  • Sun damage
  • Skin Blemishes
  • Wrinkles
  • Uneven Pigmentation
  • Acne Scars (superficial)

A chemical peel done by a professional physician at Napa Solano Plastic Surgery should not be confused with a facial you would have done at a beauty salon by a non-physician. Peels are available in different strengths through a variety of concentrations of acid. The procedure itself should not take more than 30 minutes and the acid works to remove dead skin cells that add to an older looking face and replace those cells by stimulating the growth of new skin cells.

A TCA Peel, although non-invasive, is a more aggressive procedure than a regular beauty salon facial. After the procedure is finished, patients can go about their regular lives however it is important to keep your face protected from the sun for at least 5 - 7 days after you have left the clinic. The recovery process is virtually pain-free, and patients should notice a slight redness and dead skin beginning to peel away in the 5 - 7 days following the chemical peel.

Don’t let the aging process rob you of your confidence in your appearance. The professionals at Napa Solano Plastic Surgery know that a person can feel younger than they are, and there is no reason why their appearance cannot reflect that.
