Design, Size & Weight – Bird Diverter

  • For ensuring even pressure by both tongs of clamp, gear mechanism must be used
  • Minimum 60% areas of conductor should be in direct touch gripping section of clamp.
  • Dangler must swing sway and rotate simultaneously
  • To warn bird from a safe distance, size of warning disk/dangler must not be less than: 

  1. If round: 200mm diameter
  2. If quadrilateral or trapezoid: then shortest arm length must be 150mm

  • Weight of device should not exceed 1kg, except for self sustained illuminated devices. Since, bird diverters are fixed in staggered formation; weight gets distributed on the entire span.
  • Suspension system of dangler must ensure that it will not get entangled in its own machinery or rest at the top of the conductor.

Hardware

  • All exposed metal parts must be using non corrosive material.
  • Springs should be made of stainless steel/Titanium alloy.
  • Maintenance free, self lubricating bearings, made using non corrosive material should be used.

Polymer

  • Metal clamp touching the conductor will increase the conductive area of conductor, resulting in increase in transmission losses.
  • Clamp must be made of bad conductor of electricity.
  • Clamp material must be UV stabilized.
  • Clamp material must be able to withstand extreme temperature…from -10°C  to + 80°C.
