Common Household Drainage Problems

by Mohit Jain Professional SEO Expert
There is nothing more annoying than a home drainage system that simple won’t flow. Sometimes it begins by slowing down until it finally comes to a complete stop which eventually creates a crisis. While there are many reasons why drainage will finally clog, knowing some of the common causes is the best way to treat the problem and also prevent it from happening in future. Sometimes homeowners are shocked to find large items inside the drainage system and they are shocked at how it all got there in the first place; don’t get surprised to find paper towels, small toys, stuffed animals and even sanitary towels being the main culprits.
In many other instances the problem can be anything else beginning from roots from nearby trees breaking the pipes but for most households, stuff from the kitchen takes the lead. The most common items include cooking oil, grease from bacon, glue or just about anything else that has a thick consistency that can poured down the sink or the bath tub and finally finds its way to the drainage system.

Other irritants that create drainage clogs include human and pet hair that find their way down the drains; this is why you need a strainer that prevents hair from entering the sink drain or the bath tub. Soap is also a common cause of clogs because it can actually stick to the walls of the pipes and accumulate to the extent of blocking the pipes.

With so many things surrounding you that can clog the pipes and drains, there is no doubt that sooner or alter something will actually cause the drainage system to slow down eventually. When the drain begins to slow down, you can be sure that there is something bigger than normal that found its way down there and will need to be removed. If this is done in good time, all that will need to be done involves disconnecting the pipes close to the sink or have the commode removed from under the floor before the offending item is removed. If you are dealing with the shower or a tub, it is necessary to clean up the inlets next to the wall and in most cases the offending item can be seen and fished out without much ado. If you don’t have a plumber’s snake, a hooked wire made from a coat hanger will do the job. When any of your efforts fail, all you need to do is call in a professional plumber.

When there is water standing in the sink or the tub, the first line of action would be to try and use a plunger. The force of the water that is pushed vigorously down the pipe is likely to push out any stuff that could have caused a slow down in the drain. It is always necessary to try and tilt the plunger slightly under the water so as to remove any air from under it as much as possible. If you do the plunging and there are no results, you may want to try a few chemicals that can open drains; many of these acid based chemicals are easily available in the market.
