Applying Compound and Plaster on Drywall
by Aini Clive MarketerDrywall repair and installation
service is incomplete without the application of some joint compound
and plaster mud above it. Once the professionals are done with the placement of
the panels in perfect symmetry having placed the panels and boxes in accordance
to the frames, the next step is to go towards the finishing that is required
out of it.
A common technique used in the process is feathering. It is
an application technique that slowly increases the stress being applied along
with the angle of inclination of the knife as we move it towards the edge.
Hence this way, the layer of compound accumulated over the panels is quite thin
as required in drywall repair and
installation service.
Moving on to the inner edges and corners of the panels.
Apply the joint compound now to the sides of the panel and don’t hesitate with
the use of paper tape for neatness and finishing. Press it so that the panels
slide in and rest well in proper place. Don’t cut the paper with the knife as
if yet. Just run the knife with care along one side, and then move on to doing
the same with the other one as well. This creates a firm fit of the wall
panels. Moving ahead, it’s time to cover the fasteners. Pick suitable quantity
of the compound and use it to cover the fasteners as well. A Drywall knife can
be used for the purpose though.
After having applied the first coat of the compound, drywall repair and installation service
works best if you allow the compound to dry for a good 24 hours first. After
having waited for the time, move on to the second coat of the compound that is
due. Use a knife to cover the previous coat of the compound and the tape
applied over it. As you move on with the process of drywall repair and installation service using different variants of
knife are recommended as different sizes are suitable for the specific needs.
There are 6 inch knives, 10 inch knives as well as other knives that are each
having their own uses. Having done with the second coat, again leave the
structure to dry for the next 24 hours.
With the second coat dried in the course of another day, let
us go to the third coat of the drywall
repair and installation service. Use a sandpaper for gritting the joints
and other points where abrasion is needed. Check for places where further
compound needs to be added for covering the seams or to even the surfaces.
Before you go ahead with the process we add the professional touch by now
giving it a skim coat. Mix the skim coat and get the solution ready to be
applied. Use a roller and apply the coat over the compound. Remove the
excessive coat and apply a sealer. The process is followed by paint which again
is another detailed process of its own.
