An Insight of the Science of Aromatherapy
by Pradeep Singh Marketing HeadAromatherapy is a holistic and a natural healing treatment
which uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being of an
individual. Sometimes it is also referred as essential oil therapy.
Aromatherapy uses special type of pure
natural essential oils which are also called as aromatic essential oils,
medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances
both emotional and physical health. Aromatherapy is a thought of as both an art
and a science. In the most recent years, this essential oil therapy has gained
more recognition in the fields of science and medicine.
If we talk about history, then humans have
used aromatherapy for about thousands of years. This therapy was
known to have both physical and psychological benefits. Ancient cultures in
India, China, Egypt, and elsewhere incorporated aromatic plant components in
resins, balms, and oils. These natural substances were then used for medical as
well as religious purposes. The term “Aromatherapy” was pinched by a French perfumer
and a chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé in a book that he wrote on the topic
which was published in 1937. The book discusses the use of essential oils in
treating medical conditions. He also had previously discovered the healing
potential of lavender in treating burns.
Aromatherapy works through the sense of smell and skin
absorption using products such as inhalers, bathing salts, diffusers, aromatic
spritzers, facial steamers, clay masks, etc. You can use these products alone,
or if you want it can work with combination too. There are nearly one hundred
types of essential oils available today be it online, health food stores, or
some regular supermarkets, these pure
aromatherapy oils can be bought very easily. It is better if you buy these
oils from a reputable producer since the oils are not regulated by
the FDA. This would ensure that you are buying a quality product which is 100
percent natural without any additives or synthetic ingredients. Some of the
beliefs with aromatherapy are that it has the property of boosting well-being.
It provides relief from stress and helps to freshen up or refresh your body.
Some essentials oils are thought to have an anti-inflammatory effect which
might help with arthritis and muscular pain. They help in fighting-off with
infection, help with sleeping problems and lessen your anxiety and lastly it
makes you feel calm, happy and excited. People
with cancer also use aromatherapy because it makes them feel good and fresh.
Many people say that it helps in lifting their mood and improve their
wellbeing.

There are many ways to use essential
oils in aromatherapy:

aromatherapist who is trained to work with people with cancer. The
aromatherapist would ask you general questions related to your health,
lifestyle and medical history. They will choose the oils which they feel will
