What are the bi-fold doors?

Have you ever seen a bi-fold door? Well, bi-fold doors an alternative to traditional French doors or sliding doors. They are very popular in because of their chic style and space-saving capabilities.

So, how do bi-fold doors work?

The principle with which bi-fold doors work is the same as a concertina. Alike concertina, bi-fold doors are made from multiple leaves that fold back on themselves in order to open up an entire space.

These doors are fitted to runners and when opened, they slide and fold for smooth operations. This means that it won’t take up much space as the traditional doors do. This also means that you can settle for a huge entranceway for your backyard.

Many bi-fold doors have the feature called ‘traffic’ door, depending upon your configuration. Eventually, it is a conventional door that is built into the bi-fold system that sits on a normal hinge and comes with a standard lever handle. Thus allowing quick and easy access through the entranceway when you don’t want to fold and slide open every single leaf in the door. This is perfect for busy entranceways that you tend to use regularly.

How does bi-fold differ from other sliding doors?

Many people think bi-fold doors are the same the sliding doors because bi-fold doors also slide. However, standard sliding doors do not fold and are made with two leaves where only one move.

Here, the moving lead slides in front of the stationery leaf. That is why sliding doors cover only half-open space and the other half being permanently blocked. Although, the benefit of a sliding door is that it does not at all impede on the living space or exterior space around it when opened.

Whereas in bi-fold doors, it slides and folds at the same time making it possible to open up almost the entire aperture. Only a small amount of space is taken by the folded leaves which is far less than with normal hinged doors.

So, the bi-fold doors are a blend of sliding doors and traditional French or patio doors and they offer the best of both worlds.

How bi-fold doors work in the exterior?

It is a great idea to add bi-fold doors to your exteriors as it allows you to easily open up the barrier between your indoor and outdoor space. This is perfect during hot weathers and barbecue dinners or just keeping an eye on kids while they are playing in the garden. As these type of doors don’t take up too much space either inside or outside when they are open which makes them great for small living spaces or gardens.

Installing bi-fold doors inside

As mentioned above, bi-fold doors are a wonderful solution for the people that are wanting a more flexible and open-plan interior space. They are capable of separating two individual rooms which offer better insulation and soundproofing when it is closed and can even fold completely open when you need a huge space.

Moreover, if you insert a full expanse of glass doors in the room then it will incorporate more natural light into rooms where the windows are smaller or they are way too dark.
