A Not-To-Do List While Decorating a Small Space

by Smit Studio Interior Designer
In the age where urban living has become prevalent, homeowners are now decorating small and compact spaces. Good décor, however, cannot be defined by the size of the space. But definitely, packing an extremely stylish punch in a pint-sized space can be tough. There is a lot of misinformation when it comes to designing a small space or home. It is not to sabotage your idea of building a stunner out a small space. But for sure, what works for a multi-room mansion may not shine in your tiny home and so you need to ensure that there is no iffy factor in the home.

It is tricky but of course not impossible to plan things in your diminutive-size space such that it makes the utilization of the space convenient and gives an optically larger look. It is a good idea to hire a professional interior designer based in Vadodara as maximizing storage, utilizing every square foot wisely, and creative hacks for organizing things is of utmost importance.

Emphasizing on the small size of the space, people often make mistakes and end up giving a strange look to the place. To avoid awkward setup mistakes, here is a not-to-do list while decorating a small space.

1. Undermining the Natural Light
Natural light can give a completely new look to the small space. Maximize the light spread by placing mirrors opposite the window so that it reflects the light in the space. Avoid using curtains that completely block the natural light. However, if the fall of natural light in your place is very limited then prefer bright paint hues and vibrant furniture color to bloom up the overall ambience.

2. Breaking the Visual Flow
It is a strict no for ‘cohesion’. Give a holistic look to the whole pint-sized property and avoid interrupting the visual flow. Connect the décor with a unified color palette, overall style, and material story for all the adjacent rooms and spots. This will give a seamless appearance to the entire space.

3. Fighting the Size
The first thing you need to do is accept that you have a small space. Trying to fight the space to craft more furniture and décor items will simply make your place cramped. In order to craft a chic interior, avoid crowding the space with extra items. Instead, prefer to equip things such that it makes sense and add to the beauty and the functionality of the space. For instance, if there isn’t a space for media cabinet, prefer mounting a screen on the wall. You shall consult any pro interior designer in Anand or Vadodara or in your respective city to equip smartly in the small space.

4. Wasting Valuable Space
Pull out your creative horns when it comes to carving the most usable square foot. Try to make meaningful accommodation. Incorporate floor-to-ceiling shelves, utilize the space above the window frame, add built-in sittings, place sofa or couch in front of the bookcase or shelves to maximize the functionality of the home.

5. Playing Safe with Minimalist Elements
Putting a number of small elements in the small space will amp up the look is merely a false notion. Do not fret over the size and ‘hero’ one thing that is attractive. You can opt for a bright and big drapery, maximalist wallpaper, or an elegant chair to make it alluring. Right maximal designs are of course not going to make it bland. However, if you like minimalist designs, you can also use that to define the aura of your place. But do not overcrowd with a large number of minimalist elements.
