A Cost Effective Renovation

by Toby B. Jackson How to Prepare Your RV for Storage
One of the most cost-effective renovations you can make, which not only adds value to your real estate but increases the living area is an outdoor deck. The home improvement, which enhances the usability of your outdoor living space, also creates architectural interest. Decks can be installed at ground level, on a hillside, with a gazebo, or in a wraparound design. Naturally, a deck is always a nice addition too when you’re installing a swimming pool.

Add Functionality to an Outdoor Space

Because of the additional square footage a deck adds, people like to use the space to entertain. Equipping your deck with a grill will make it a nice spot to dine and relax in the evening. If your house is situated on a hill or you have limited yard space, a deck can be built in levels or at an elevation that enhances the landscape. Include an outside kitchen area, spa, or hot tub to add functionality to a space which, otherwise, could not be used.

Building a Deck: A Practical Solution for Increasing Your Home’s Worth

While there are a number of ways you can impart more space in your home’s design, few of the methods are nearly as cost-efficient as when you build a deck. A deck can be set up without any need to include wiring and roofing. Therefore, the improvement is an affordable alternative and practical solution for increasing the value of your real estate. In fact, one remodeling publisher showed that homeowners can recoup over 72% on the cost of adding a deck when they sell their home.

AZEK Brand Decking

To further reduce the cost of building a deck and lower the maintenance expense, you need to select the right material. While wood, no doubt, adds beauty and value to your outside decor, it still is not as durable or long-lasting as some of the innovative brand materials used for moulding, trims, and decking today. One of the premier building materials used for decks is the AZEK brand. The AZEX product is preferred to wood as it resists stains and scratches, will not split, and is resilient to mold, mildew, moisture, and insects.

Procell® Technology

Plus, the PVC-type product will not absorb stains and other by-products because it isn’t made of wood fillers. Using a process called Procell® technology, the material is made so it will not absorb such items as red wine, cooking grease, condiments, or even wet leaves, all which can stain your deck permanently.

Easy to Clean

You also want a material for your deck that is easy to maintain. While you have to treat a wood deck regularly, you only have to maintain the looks of an AZEK deck by applying an all-purpose cleaner. Just make sure you avoid using an abrasive substance, which can dull the color of the deck over time.

How to Clean Off Scuff Marks

If you need to scrub off scuff marks or more stubborn stains, then use a degreaser. Apply it to the spot and allow it to soak before scrubbing off the blemish. Don’t use any substance, such as caulk or PVC glue, on the AZEX product as these kinds of substances can result in damage or discoloration.

Cleaning Off Surface Mold and Mildew

Although AZEK decking can display mold and mildew, if the environmental conditions are right, neither of these outdoor manifestations will penetrate the boards. To remove these surface substances, use an all-surface cleaner for decks or add one part bleach to four parts water. Scrub off the mold or mildew with a bristle brush before rinsing away the residue. Sometimes, you may have to repeat the process. You can also power wash a deck made of the AZEK material as long as your maintain a pressure of no more than 1300 PSI and use a fan tip.

Weathering

Most decking, whether it is made of a wood, a composite or a PVC-type material, will weather over time. Therefore, weathering, which occurs because of a material’s exposure to sunlight, heat, cold, or moisture, is not considered as a product defect as all decks take on a lighter hue when they are exposed to the elements. However, the AZTEX deck material, because it resists moisture, can be used near water, whether it’s a pond, lake, or swimming pool.

AZEK material also resists cracking and has proven to be superior in this regard when compared to composite and wood decks. So, if you’re goal is to enhance the value of your home and increase its usable space, an AZEK deck is an installation you’ll want to consider adding on your real estate.
