by John Steffen Consultant
The idea of decorating your house with plants is not only aesthetically pleasing but also adds that much needed green freshness to your place, with benefits like health and beauty; it’s always a win-win situation. If you’re also looking to jump on board this trend of indoor and outdoor greenery then we don’t blame you! However, buying pots for plants is not an easy task as it might seem. There are a few things that should be taken into consideration before purchasing pots for your very own personal garden!

  • 1.     PLAN IT OUT

Yes, you can just buy all the pots you might find appealing but it’s important to plan it out first because otherwise you might reach home and find that the pots are too big/not big enough or looks out of place. So, it’s always wise to decide and think about the style you’re looking for, and does it suit the kind of plants you’re going to use? It is essential to determine the functionality of your pot and the space it needs to exist in your home.

  • 2.    PERSONALITY

The market is filled with a variety of pots and choosing the right one can be incredibly overwhelming, there are a number of designer pots one can choose from and it looks amazing in your living space too, but before deciding on a certain pot, think about the interiors of your house and does it seem to flow with your or your place’s style? Is it an antique look you’re going for or a more modern one? Things like colors, design and the style of your place should be the deciding factor almost all times.

  • 3.    SIZE

Do not buy those big gigantic copper pots if you live in a small apartment, it does not make sense and uses up a lot of necessary space. The pots you buy should appropriate in size for your apartment.

  • 4.    COMPOSITION

If you’re one of those people who like to cluster a number of pots into your house for pure viewing pleasure, make sure that the pots are coordinated and cohesive in composition. Try mixing up different textures and sizes under the same color tone. The rule of three works best; three different sized with three complimentary textures within the same color tone.

  • 5.    MATERIAL

Pots come in different sizes and shapes but it’s actually the material that sets them apart! Pots can be made out of wood, terracotta, cement and even glass. It’s important to consider their use before zooming in on a particular material. Wooden pots are fabulous for growing herbs whilst glass pots are perfect for delicate maidenhair ferns, bigger feature trees look incredible when planted in oversized oxidised zinc planters and we all know, fiddle leaf fig looks in an oversized cement pot.
