4 Clear Ways to Get Rid of Under Eye Dark Circles

by Vijay Khatri A full time health and fitness blogger

Why do dark circles appear under the eyes? The common explanation is because of lack of sleep or exhaustion. And indeed, the dark under eye circles do appear from having sleepless nights or exhausting days, and give your appearance a tired, haggard look.

But dark circles under the eyes are more of a skin condition that may be a result of faulty lifestyle, eye strain, genetics or increasing age. Sun exposure also plays a role in this.

The common causes of under eye dark circles are examined here, with ways to tackle them by using the best under eye cream.

Common Reasons for Under Eye Dark Circles

Dark circles under the eyes are extremely common in some races (African, Asian) and in some skin types. The most common reasons for dark circles are listed here:

  • Aging

With age, your skin becomes thinner, and the fat and collagen needed to maintain your skin’s elasticity diminishes. As this occurs, the dark blood vessels beneath your skin become more visible making the skin below your eyes darken.

  • Over exposure to the sun’s UV rays

Over exposure to the sun causes excess of melanin production in your skin. Melanin is the pigment that provides your skin with colour, and too much sun exposure can cause pigmentation of your under eye skin.

  • Eye Strain

Life in the pandemic has become a continuous process of being online, looking at our laptop or mobile screens. When you stare at an electronic screen for too long, the strain to your eyes can cause blood vessels around your eyes to enlarge and the skin surrounding your eyes to darken.

  • Dehydration

Something as common as lack of sufficient water in your body can cause the under eye skin to look dull and your eyes look sunken.

  • Genetics and Heredity

Dark under eye circles may also be due to family history. You may have inherited it from your ancestors. Certain ethnic groups like Asians and Africans also tend to have melanin rich skin and can show more of this condition.

How to Remove or Lessen Dark Circles?

Ensure you get a good night’s rest and sufficient sleep, drink plenty of water, and rest your eyes by looking away from the screen every ten to fifteen minutes. Besides these, you can use an eye cream for dark circles that will hydrate and protect your delicate under eye skin.

To tackle dehydrated skin under the eyes, a hydrating eye cream with the moisturizing and anti-oxidant properties of Avocado oil, Beta Carotene and Shea Butter works very well.

An eye cream to be used at night, with Lavender Essential Oil, Butcher’s Broom Extract, and Evening Primrose Oil is also very useful to replenish the under-eye area and make it radiant and youthful.

The next step in skincare is that of visibly reducing the under eye dark circles. Vitamin C skincare is extremely beneficial when it comes to brightening and evening out skin tone. The best under eye cream would be one with Pure Vitamin C and Haloxyl that effectively reduces the visible signs of aging like crow’s feet, dark circles and wrinkles from the under eye skin. An anti-wrinkle eye serum formulated with L-Ascorbic Acid, or Pure Vitamin C, helps brighten and smoothen the skin around the eyes to give a fresh look.

An effective eye cream for dark circles should have Vitamin C, along with Tri-Peptide and the super-hydrating Hyaluronic Acid to refresh tired looking eyes and reduce eye puffiness, fine lines and dark circles.

With a focused skincare routine aimed at hydrating the under eye skin and brightening it, dark circles can be reduced and eliminated.
