3 Benefits of Horizontal Directional Drilling

by Shiv Kaushik Guest Poster

There are a few benefits of horizontal directional drilling.

Use

The first benefit is that you can continue to use your land while the drilling is going on. With the other types of drilling, the person is going to need to give up their property including the roads that you drive on. But this is not going to be the case with horizontal directional drilling. This is because there is going to be a path that is set during the planning period of the project. This path is going to mean that the land can be used normally just like the property owners want to use it. This also means that the buildings and roadways are going to stay usable and they can maintain their integrity while the drilling is taking place.

Horizontal Directional Drilling

This means that homeowners are going to be able to install the extra utilities that they are going to need like telecommunications, gas, water, and power. This type of drilling is going to be more accurate and flexible when it comes to installing the utilities. Plus, you don't have to worry about it costing you a lot of money to do so. Therefore, it is going to be one of the best alternatives when you need to maintain or repair any of your utilities. This is because there are going to be fewer complications that are going to happen when you are doing this type of drilling.

Recovery

The second benefit is that it can increase the reserve recovery of the land. This means that the drainage of the target reservoir is going to be a lot more effective. When a company is using vertical drilling, then there is only going to be so much oil that the site is going to be able to pull before they are having to dig again. But the horizontal directional drilling can increase the exposure to the reservoir so that more oil is going to be produced without having to interfere with the land. This is one of the biggest benefits that a company is going to be able to experience. This also means that you know that none of the work is going to be stopped or delayed because of the weather conditions outside. This type of drilling is going to be suitable for all of the different conditions of the weather. This is going to help to avoid the problem of pumping the water out of the pits compared to the other types of drilling that might be used. Since the roads are not going to be messed with, then you will not need a permit and there are not going to be any traffic jams.

Environment

The third benefit is that there is going to be less damage to the natural environment. This means that it is going to be better for the environment. Environmental conservation is one of the biggest efforts of the industry that is currently happening. Therefore, it is only going to make sense that more companies are using horizontal drilling as an effort in using something that is sustainable. Since the path is going to be horizontal, they have the ability to be far below the surface of the land. This means that there is going to be little disturbance to the natural environment besides the actual place where the drilling is going to happen. When the company has to trench, then it is going to disturb the most sensitive areas of the environment. But you are going to know that the environment is protective through the horizontal directional type of drilling.
