Usability makes people love your app

Do you have developed a mobile app and going to release on the App store? Double check before submitting your app because the first impression of your app makes a huge impact on the audience.

If you have not done complete testing, then it can happen that there are many bugs available in the App. And it irritates the users.

Yeah… You can resolve it after app release and provide the updated version, but IT’S NOT YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION! Keep in mind.

Just try to provide an amazing bug-free and user-friendly app in its first release itself.

There are lots of types of testing like usability, performance, functional, compatibility, security and many others. All these are important.

Must check the usability of your app before submitting it to the app store.

Do you know why?

Because your users don’t know types of testing. They just check how easy to use your app.

Try following proven Mobile App Usability tips to Provide Better Usability:

1. User Centric Design

Always focus on the design of your mobile app and it always results in great results. You can draw the whole design flow of your app and decide the flow before starting the design and development process.

While designing the app working flow, keep users in mind and make the flow as easy as possible. App Navigation is the most important part of great usability. It’s true that a look and feel of the mobile app makes a good mobile app great.

2. Notice the Behavior of Users.

As a developer, you know all features of your app and yes, your testing team also knows the features and working of your app.  So, it’s always easy for you to deal with your app.

But if you want to know how users will behave on your app, you have to hire some users for app testing. And observe how they are interacting with your app and what difficulties they found while using your app. And you will be able to get a clear idea about your app usability.

3. Must Check Are the Active and Inactive Buttons Clearly Distinguished?

The buttons of your app must be made in such a way that user can clearly distinguish that which buttons are active and which are not.

4.     Verify the most common gestures used to control the app.

Use the symbol which users can recognize easily. Don’t use complex symbols to make your app fancy. Sometimes it creates difficulty for users to use the app easily.

5. App Must have “Search Option” (If Applicable)

If your app has a long data to scroll, then must provide a search option to find the appropriate result. It’s really helpful to provide better user experience.

6. Back Button

Make it possible for users to go back to the previous screen instance by adding cancel or back button.

7. Progress Icon

If the app performing slowly, then you should use the progress icon (Ex. Loading…) so that user can know what’s going on and wait.

8. App’s behavior while Incoming Call

Must check that, if the app is working as desired if there is an incoming call or not.

9.  App’s behavior while Charging

Must check that, if the app is working as desired while the charger is connected or not.

10. App’s Behavior While “Battery Low”

Must check that, if the app is working as desired if there is a message about “battery low” pushed.

11. Unexpected Error

It’s really important because no one wants to lose their work which they have created. I mean sometimes it may happen that app stops due to some unexpected errors and user lose their work. It’s really irritating.

For the best user experience, if the app stopped at unexpected times, user data should be saved locally and available at start-up.

12. Battery consumption Issue

If your app is consuming more battery, users don’t like to use it. If your app is consuming the phone’s battery faster, the rate of un-installation will also faster.

Try to minimize the battery consumption as low as possible.

13. Test Across Multiple Devices

There are different types of devices like Android, iOS, Windows etc and a large variety of devices are available. Every mobile platform will have its own standards and guidelines. So must test your app on all platforms in which you have made the app.

The same ways there are a huge number of mobile devices are available. Sometimes it happens that the same app is working fine on one device and not in another device. So, test your app in a maximum type of mobile devices.

14. Network Specific Tests

Must check that, if the app is working as desired if connected to the internet through 3G, 2G or Wi-Fi.

15. Keyboard Adjustment

Keyboard adjusts to expected input (for instance numbers/letters when expected)

16. Don’t Make an App too Messy

The clean interface creates a decent impression. Don’t make the app messy by adding more and more button, labels and other. If your app has many features, then also you should manage it in such a way that it doesn’t look messy.

17. Use Images with High Resolution

If your app uses images, then don’t use blur image. The images should be clear to delight users.

It’s possible that use of high-resolution image may increase the size of the app, but you can use kind of image compressors which compress the images without affecting the quality of the images.

18. Automated Testing

Manual testing is always awesome. But don’t forget to test your app using automated software. It will detect the errors if you have forgotten to find some errors to make for first release bug-free.

Final Thought:

The success of your mobile app always depends on the happiness of users of your app. If the app is easy to use, the more people will use it and ultimately more audience you will get which makes your app successfully.

The more your app is usable, it will be successful in App market and delight more users and ultimately it’s your success.

Don’t just develop the app, develop an Awesome App!
