Videos in the APSense Wiki
It is possible to put videos in the new improved APSense Wiki.
It is very easy to do so. Let's say you want to add a video describing how to upload a video from YouTube. I choose this as an example cause I created such a video a few months ago.
Here are the steps you have to follow to create an article in the Wiki:
1) You have to have access as a contributor.
2) You choose the appropriate place to create your article.
In this case, I go into APSense General, and since I find that my video would be a good fit in the "Articles" section, I will put it there, cause it's always interesting to have a video as part of an article at APSense, so it makes sense to teach the members how to do so.
3) In "APSense General", you click on "Articles".
In the case here, since the Wiki is fairly new, I get the message:
This topic does not exist yet
You've followed a link to a topic that doesn't exist yet. If permissions allow, you may create it by using the Create this page button.
The "Create" button is there at the top right. It means I do I have the permission, so I click on it. A new page appears where I can start writing the article.
IMPORTANT: Please choose the following template to start the article, i.e. copy and paste it from here:
====== Talents ======
==== How it Works ====
==== Videos ====
==== Tips & Tricks ====
==== See Also ====
4) Write the text you want in the appropriate sections.
There are some options for formatting, look here
5) To add the video, you get the embed code from wherever the video is, in this case YouTube.
IMPORTANT: Once you put the embed code in the Wiki article, put in front of it and at the end of it.
Here is the embed code for my video. I modified it slightly so you can see it here instead of the video itself.
< iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gtclRjSBZ6M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
When you add the tags I mentioned, the end result will be:
< iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gtclRjSBZ6M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
\\ \\
In some cases, you might take videos from other sites, and the size will be too big. You can modify it easily, all you have to do is change the width and height, in the case here they are respectively 480 and 390.
For instance, I have some videos I put at screencast.com and the sizes are about widh 1080 and height 782. For regular articles here on the main APSense site, I change that to width 500 and height 400 and it fits just fine. You can choose the same numbers in the Wiki article.
In addition to the video embed code, I wrote:
**How to upload a video in YouTube** \\ \\
just above it.
You probably noticed I put some backslashes after the tag and at the end of the statement I wrote. Two backslashes followed by a space says to Wiki to add a new line.
One other thing: putting 2 stars at the beginning and end of a statement makes it appear in bold.
One last thing: for YouTube videos, or for videos done with screenr.com, clicking on the bottom right after the video has started puts it in full screen.
You can see the end result here.
