Why is intensive check to emails essential?

Stalkers are everywhere. Do you think that digital landscape is free from such kind of malicious attempts? If yes, then your ideology needs a change. Recall the collateral damage of the most dreadful ‘WannaCry’ ransomware that hit on 12th May 2017. It paralyzed around 57,000 users’ computers in 74 countries within 3 days. Dumbstruck figure, isn’t it?

Errors are the best way to learn. A loop in the Microsoft’s SMB steered towards unauthorized vulnerability. In simpler words, the SMB system that is used for sharing files via close network (private & public) was exploited. The cyber-spies entered through public network. As a repercussion, the ransomeware locked down while stealing away more contacts from the email addresses.

Besides SMB system, emails need intensive surveillance. It’s a high time to get extra-cautious. Catch on the email address as well as its location to get off from such a filthy vulnerability.

Here are a few IT support tips to trace email locations. Act upon them dead seriously because precaution can save you in time from cybercriminals.

How can IT professionals support tracing email location?

  1. Login your Gmail account by typing the valid password.
  2. Click on the suspicious email to trace the sender and his location.
  3. Move the cursor to the dropdown icon at the upright of the arrow icon & click.
  4. A dropdown menu will pop. Select the ‘Show Original’ option from the menu.
  5. The code page will flash.
  6. What you need to do is open the search tab by pushing Ctrl+f. Type “received: from” in the search bar.
  7. The highlighted ‘received from’ would catch your eyeballs automatically. If it’s not visible, scroll down a bit to reach the highlighted horizontal colourful lines appearing in the vertical scroll bar.
  8. Copy the bracketed ‘IP Address’ (that would be in this form-209.86.215.100) from there.
  9. Go to ‘whatismyipaddress.com’ to trace the exact location of the IP.
  10. Click on ‘IP LOOKUP’ tab.
  11. Paste the very same IP address that you copied earlier in the field prefixing ‘Lookup IP Address’.
  12. As you click the tab ‘Lookup IP Address’, the entire detail will pop up in the next window. It would consist of organization name, their core business, geolocation and geolocation map etc.
Once the A to Z information is collected by these IT solutions, the picture would be crystal clear & authentic about the status of the email source.

Let’s move to one more interesting thing that can help the IT solutions provider to identify the email source.

What’s a favicon?

Have you noticed a small icon in the title bar of LinkedIn or Twitter? It’s the logo that represents the website. View this picture. It has an apparent view of the title tag along with favicon.

For branding purpose, using it is a hit formula. An organization can be a household name with it. Building online reputation would be a walkover with it. And even, branding would be a no big deal once the favicon would be highly recognized. The favicon is the ‘face’ of the brand on internet.

You would walk on cloud because it is consistent to almost every browser, like Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari.

By using any of these codes on any browser, a website can get its face on the title bar.

·         rel="shortcut icon"

href="http://example.com/myicon.ico" />

·         rel="icon" type="image/x-icon"

href="http://example.com/image.ico" />

These are just two ways of integrating it. You can google more example codes to use for appending the favicon.

How can you view favicon with the email ids in your gmail inbox?

Emphasize on your brain to premeditate what if the favicon would reflect in the inbox of your gmail. Won’t it be a walkover to identify the valid and the most valuable email? Of course, it would be. Suppose an IT support provider in the Gold Coast sent an urgent mail to its brainchild organization for digitizing its client’s data. But the lurking danger of ransomware prevented the recipient to click and check it. Consequently, it lost that client.

To end up this difficulty of attending the most useful emails, the extension ‘Gmail Sender Icon’ is devised. Let’s catch the roundup of how you can append it to your gmail account settings.

Steps to visualize favicon with the email addresses in the gmail inbox:

  • Go to your gmail account & login.
  • Go to ‘settings’ through the three vertical dots displaying at the top upright. Click.
  • The setting window will be popped up. Click on ‘Extension’ at the left side.
  • Scroll down and click on the more advanced settings.
  • Search for ‘Gmail Sender Icon’ in the Google search bar. It’s an extension.
  • Click on the ‘Add to Chrome’ tab as depicted in the picture. It will initialize installation of its extension to the chrome.
  • Click on the popped up window’s ‘Add extension’ tab.
  • This window will appear showing that the extension is added:

* Then, either refresh or re-access the same link of gmail.

* The favicons will start appending the email addresses. Be it primary, social or promotion, they will start visualizing in every segment.
