How is Dating Someone From a Uniform Dating Site Different than Normal Dating Sites?

by Sandra B. Dating consultant

There are so many ways that you can date someone, but it takes a little something extra to be able to handle the unique demands you will encounter when dating someone from a uniform dating site, regardless of what that uniform may be. We want to think that we are able handle anything that is thrown at us, but the truth is, sometimes there are just too many demands thrown at us all at once.

Still, there are millions of relationships initiated simply because of the love of the uniform. The people that feel like they can stick it out find themselves in a relationship that is a lot stronger than those of non-uniformed professionals. You don’t think it’s true? Here are some reasons why uniformed dating may be something you’d want to consider in the future.

How Can Uniform Dating Be Different?

Perhaps we need to clear something up first; uniform dating isn’t that different than normal dating, it just comes with its own set of expectations, rules, and even guides that you wouldn’t consider while dating a non-uniformed professional. Unlike traditional dating where you could see your significant other any time of the year, your ability to see your uniformed partner may be limited to their schedule. Even if you are dating a police officer or a doctor, you are at the mercy of their hectic and often times demanding schedule. It’s worse if you are dating someone in the military because they could be deployed for months or even years at a time. Many people don’t seem to understand just how hard it can be to spend that amount of time away from the person they love until it actually happens.

A hidden complication about uniform dating is that when you get into a relationship with someone who is already established in their career, you are actually in a three way relationship. How is that possible? Your uniformed professional usually has a strong commitment to their career and more often than not, their profession will come first. The people who make the commitment to their uniform are extremely dedicated and this means that when duty calls, they can’t ignore it. For a lot of people who aren’t used to this type of lifestyle, it can be hard to deal with. Now, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t datable—in fact, when they start a relationship with you and it becomes serious, you can be certain that they will devote as much of their free time to you and making the most out of it.

How Do I Know if Uniform Dating Is For Me?

It takes a someone who has a strong sense of self to deal with the demands associated with uniformed dating; but, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible for everyone else. If you are comfortable with yourself and being alone, you should be fine. Of course, it’s much more than simply relying on yourself, you will want to have a support system that you can rely on when things get hard for you. These people will be there to talk to you when you’re feeling lonely, but they will also help the time away from your loved one that much more tolerable.

Along with a strong support system and personality, you’ll want to make sure that you and your partner trust one another and the lines of communication are open between you two. These are two very important things your relationship will need if you want to survive the demands of dating a uniformed professional.

No one will say that uniform dating will be easy, because it won’t be. It’ll give you experiences you’ve never dreamed you would have to deal with—both good and bad. We can say that the amount of respect you will have for your significant other that wears the uniform will grow so much as your relationship continues. Why? Because you will learn how selfless they are, how dedicated they can be, and how brave they are, as many of them have high stress jobs and they will come home and need you to be a comfort to them. And the very fact in knowing that they will come home and need you is enough to make everything worth it.
