author, is launching her new book Growing Up Black In America Without
Experiencing Racism: A New Reality and Hope for the Future. The book is
intended to bring to the forefront problems faced by the black community
in America, which cannot necessarily be attributed to racism. It is a
synthesis of hard facts and her own subjective experiences as a
29-year-old black woman in America.
Marie hopes to spark a
discussion and mobilize change through her book. She recognizes her
boldness in delivering a message that doesn’t confine with people’s
perceptions, but she hopes that it brings about awareness that she is
not alone in her observations. “My purpose in writing this book is to
make people consciously aware of the way that we treat each other.
I
want the black community to acknowledge the many problems that are
always ignored, so that we can work on fixing them together,” says
Marie. In her book she highlights problems of such as intra racial
bullying among others. She is not set out to rouse hostility towards
these problems, but rather expose them to the positive end of resolving
them. Her book is not left open ended, but rather is comprehensive in
that it includes solutions, as she perceives them, to the problems that
she highlights.
