Fantasy cricket through the ages

by Jenny Jonson Writer

Remember when you were a kid and you just got back home from school? What was the first thing you did? Throw off your shoes, change out of your school uniform and run to meet your neighbourhood friends for your daily dose of gully cricket! This is true of most kids who grew up in India in the 90’s. As we rushed to play our little game of cricket we often mimicked our favourite cricket player whom we saw on TV. We lived in our own little fantasy cricket world!

As we grew up and entered our teens, instead of fading out our cricket fever only grew more intense. You grew obsessed with the game and followed international matches with fervent devotion. Team selection became the common topic of discussion in most of the houses and so was it in yours. You even discussed it when you got together with your friends and gave an opinion about who according to you should be in the national cricket team. So if you think about it, we have indulged in cricket games in India even before the term was commercialized!

The ardent devotion with which people follow cricket has inspired a new virtual world. Here in the world of virtual money and gaming enthusiasts we see a new upcoming trend. We have had games where you can play virtual cricket but this one promises to be the ustaad of all virtual cricket games as it aims to satisfy your ultimate deep rooted cricket fantasy, that of owning your own team! Here, YOU get to choose who plays and who sits out. Sounds interesting?

The game draws parallels from real life to make it as realistic as possible. So simply put, you get a virtual budget which you can use it to select your team players. You absolutely must follow the rules laid out which has restrictions on the number of batsmen, bowlers you can have etc. For example you must have at least four batsmen, minimum one all-rounder, exactly one wicket keeper at least two bowlers to make a balanced team. But of course, for the average cricket fan this is common knowledge. And lo and behold you have your very own team for the fantasy cricket premier league!

So live out your dream! Put yourself in the shoes of the team selectors and think hard about how to make the best team. You have to keep in mind the form and fitness of the players you select. Their performance in the real world affects your score in the game. If your player does well you stand a good chance of gaining from it. You can’t overstep your budget so you have to sort your finances accordingly when you bid for your team players. So go ahead and enjoy your time in your fantasy cricket world and play fantasy cricket game!
