EMPLOYEES ON THEIR OWN WHEN IT COMES TO CAREER MANAGEMENTYou are a manager or director in the food industry. You have done well and climbed the ladder within your company. So far you always managed to deal with challenges and have had a satisfactory career progression. The more you progress, though, the higher the stress, the more complex the issues, and even politics come into the picture. You are faced with career choices and day to day issues. But you are on your own. You hardly can open yourself to your boss or colleagues, and your friends and family will probably offer comfort but no useful professional advice. You intuitively know that you should manage your career instead of letting your company do it for you but do not have anyone to turn to.Many food professionals find themselves in such situation. Our food industry consultants have been through this during their career. At food microconsulting we do not think that letting employees manage their career and day to day work on their own is normal, so we decided to do something about it.HELPING YOU MANAGE YOUR CAREERAt food microconsulting we take career management seriously. We consider that leaving your career in your employer’s hands is probably not the best way to optimise it. We are not talking about remuneration only. We know that most career moves proposed by a company are first to the company’s benefit rather than the employee’s. It is fair if it suits you. If it does not, you need to do something about it.We also know that there can be some environments more suited to one’s personality than others. There is a natural tendency for an employee (even at a high level of responsibility) to see one’s working environment as the “norm”. It can be misleading. If your company’s culture (or the relationship you have with your hierarchy or colleagues) does not suit you, you should do something about it.
