SEO - the giant lie
I want to start this list post by say, by the end of it any marketer who knows what they are talking about will have to agree with what I say - but at the beginning they may not like to.
SEO is a giant sham. Its a lie to keep marketers from becoming successful. What happened is once upon a time some marketers realized they could manipulate the system by focusing on certain key aspects of their online presence.
The most notably of course is that of link building. They started spreading the message that you could gain rankings based on the number of backlinks coming into your site. As time went on the type of backlinks mattered more and more and the types of sites you received backlinks from mattered more and more, but the fact remained it was all about backlinking.
So this entire field of lies was build called SEO. The entire field did and continues to focus on getting backlinks to your site. Now days its all about targeted backlinks and targeted content - but still its about backlinks.
The truth is that SEO is a lie. Seaarch engine optimization is not about backlinks and it never was. Thats just a manipulation that is used by SEO marketers.
Why is it a great lie if it works? Because it convinces marketers they need backlinks. Google has said over and over to stop creating backlinks. Let backlinks happen naturally. This is the intent of google switching to natual backlinks. Not to get marketers to switch the way they create backlinks.... that is blackhat marketing at its finest.
So how does blackhat marketing aka SEO work? It works by going out and submitting articles, placing links on relevant websites, and enerating content all over the internet that links back to your website from other peoples websites.
Whats wrong with this? You are focused on link building. Thaats what is wrong with it. Thats why its all a giant lie.
********
Now the truth.
I am Bruce Bates. I am a very well known marketer in all the right circles. A great deal of people live and die by my advice. I am very arrogant but at the same time, I have a reason for that arrogance. Its the same reason people invest thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of dollars into my marketing methods and advice.
What I am going to tell you is you need to stop focusing on building links. Its all the wrong method and no successful company is going out building links. Thats not how its done.
There is a reason some of my businesses get over 25,000 backlinks from ONE website and its not because there is some team of people strategically placing backlinks. Its because they happen naturally. It's truly amazing how that works. One can build backlinks without going out and building backlinks. How amazing can it get.
See the things you should be focusing on, are not the things the SEO folks want to admit are what you should be working on, because it puts all their hard work to shame.
You should be working on your interactions, and your marketing. Thats what Search engines do, they rank you based on your overall marketing score. The links are a major factor but they are not the only factor.
Whats even better is that by not link building, and instead focusing on your marketing, you start to go out and test new websites. For example if you test the website linkreferral, you can build hundreds of thousands of backlinks just by actively using the site for a few months. The links build themselves.
Why? Because you are focused on your marketing. The more things you test, the more trails of links you leave behind. Not because you are strategically placing links, but rather because you are testing marketing methods.
Take for example the idea of creating backlinks from press releases. What a terrible idea. The problem is people start finding these crappy free press release sites that are really nothing more than article websites. Why? Because they are trying to place links.
I have a list of contacts, emails and twitter accounts to real people in the press who accept press releases of various given topics. Its amazing how much farther having human to human interaction will get you. Not laying links, real articles, real newspapers, real publications, real tv. This is what marketing is all about.
If you market instead of focusing on SEO you get a LOT further a LOT fasther.
In the ammount of time it takes someone to build 2500 links with article marketing, I could build 25000 links just by sharing it social, through reshares, and more reshares, and more reshares, and cross network shares, etc etc etc
Connections folks, Everything in life is all about connections. Its not about backlinks building, good connections build your links for you.
There are a million ways to market online. There are a million things to test. Focusing on getting the most ads in front of the people you want to see them, rather than focusing on the people themselves is a big mishap in the marketing world.
Avoid the SEO trap and don't build backlinks.

I agreed with you from the start. I have achieved a few #1 listings on Google, but only for keywords that most people would never search for without being prompted. I finally decided to ignore Google altogether and focus on leveraged networking by word of mouth and I am finding it actually works, Exponential growth is not just a pipe dream after all.
