Amazon has announced that July 15, 2015, will be Prime Day. For nearly a century, the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season has been the Friday after Thanksgiving. I don’t recall exactly when that day became “Black Friday” but it was over a decade ago when somebody noticed that the Christmas shopping frenzy during the 4th quarter of the year was when most retail merchants actually broke into the "black", after 3 quarters of either break-even, or even some red ink.
