Well it was science fiction yesterday
I love reading old Scifi authors like Jules Verne. Just think how crazy some of his Ideas were back in his day and one of his most popular 'crazy' ideas is a normal everyday thing to us,The Nautilus.
Can you imagine the conversation with his publisher.
"Listen to this idea I have for a new novel called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It's about this madman named Nemo, who is the captain of a ship that travels underwater..."
"A ship that travels under the ocean Jules? Lay off the Port chum, it's making you right addled in the head!"
Yet to us today the idea of a submarine is quite a normal thing. Nothing spectacular And oh yes specimens of Giant Squid have also been caught and studied. Yet in Jules Verne's day the first was a fantasy and the second was a myth!
It can be quite eye-opening for me to see just how 'prophetic' Science fiction is. Everything from the wondrous inventions we take for granted to the commentary on our culture. Makes you wonder how they knew.
