Personal is Personal But Business can be both
The title of this post means just that. When you write a note to someone you personalize it, sign is a certain way, address it a certain way etc..
In Business its important to stay professional but it doesnt have to impersonal. Referral links are great in messages. You put a little blurb you cut and pasted from the site and post it every where - you my or may not end up with referrals.
Busines is about building relationships that is where longevity comes in. Selling online may be anonymous at times but you still should be providing invoices, no matter how you sell online, through Ebay, Direct Site, Word of Mouth. The connection to the custome is not the item purchased or I should say it doesn't end there. When I shop in person, take the bus or go to a restaurant I expect courtesy above all else. I don't care how blood good the food is - its service; good service. Isn't that even part of the tipping process?
I just came off a blog asking about how you promote your Ebay auctions. Some trade bus cards with other sellers to put into shipments (how do you know the other seller is really doing that?). I noted that one thing I do it handwrite a short note on the bottom of every invoice. Even if it just says thank you for your order, have a great day - it will have an impact.
Selling online is much more personal than people think unless you only sell to businesses. Even then the personal touch will make them order from you again not Joe Schmo.
You are selling online and sending most items to personal residences. The item might welcomed and urgently waited for but the personal note is like icin on the cake. Wow this person actually took the time to write me a note - how thoughtful. By accepting an item into their home from your shop, storefront or forum post - in a way you are stepping into the home as well. I would like to be remembered for that.
Some people even keep the invoices for their records. Its a note that will be remembered.
Its like saying thank you in person with a huge smile!
Thanks for reading.

Eileen you are so right....
I am quoting you here 'I do handwrite a short note on the bottom of every invoice".... I think everyone should do that. It makes me feel great when I receive my package and a little something like that is attached. The seller really cares and makes me feel really appreciated.
Great tip!
