The Samurai was the name given to members of a caste in ancient Japan with one of the biggest fighting powers. In accordance with the history of the Samurai, this caste system has a more important meaning on the origin of well-known Japanese martial arts. Before the Samurai rose into ultimate power in the 12th century, they operated as provincial warriors. Members of the caste of Samurai are required to live by the orthodox operating procedure of honor and respect called Bushido (the way of the warrior). Previously in the Heian Period, the Samurai usually functioned as “protectors” of noble landowners. The Samurai introduced the first military leaders in Japan, where they worked for the daimyos (lords), and empowered the shogun.
