I agree, by not being exposed to normal amounts of "dirt" we don't give our immune systems a chance to become stronger. A friend of mine is happy to let her children play in the dirt--that's what normal kids do! Her kids are never sick. Her sister is a germophobe whose kids are never allowed to get dirty and always seem to be coming down with some illness. A house should be "clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy."

I look at it this way...
A body builder needs to work there muscles daily to stay in shape. Our heart and lungs are the same... we need to come in contact with a certain amount of bacteria to enable our lungs to grow at there fullest, by fighting the bacteria, our lungs slowly build up there strength making it easier to fight off the next infection.
Likewise, when the body has suffered some diseases like chickenpox, it tends to build an immunity to the disease preventing further infection.

God I sure hope not, I have a big compulsive disorder, and I am forever cleaning my home...With five children, three of them are teenagers, It only makes it worse.....However, even with all the cleaning, my children rarely get sick. Anyone with more info on this please share. I have to look out for my children.
Thanks,
Wendy

Yes it's true and even the use of more and more cosmetic products and everyday vitamins and all sorts of 'new' things only hurt our immune system. Most of my fiance family are doctors in many areas and they all say that using too many chemicals only make our immune system to be weaker not stronger as we all think. And I do agree with Garnet Nagy that we should not live like total pigs :) But too much of anything isn't good...

Yeah, for sure...
I think the philosophy behind it is based on "avoiding" dusts and pollens and animals like cats and dogs especially from our kids.
When we do this, kids don't get the chance to develop a solid immune system.

Interesting concept, I can agree to a point but wouldn't recommend living like a total pig - lol! More likely, moderation is the key, too much of anything likely isn't good for you.
