What's Your Take On Page Ranking?
Reprint
PageRank has been all the rage since Google first introduced that little green line on the Google toolbar. Links are bought and sold at a premium based on how far that little green bar stretches to the right.
But is it really wise to pay a premium for links on high PageRank pages? Are sites with the highest PageRank the ones that are ranking better in Google?
I decided to find out, and I've published my results in my latest blog post:

Read it -- you might be surprised at what I discovered.

I think page rank is still a strong marketing option.
Look at APsense for example. ABC's with higher votes list in the APsense top 10 Business centres. This is APsenses own built in PR system using its own Algorithms.
With google, PR is simply a vote of how popular your site is. The more votes (Links) you receive the more popular your site will be.

Hi all,
As I left a comment similar to this on the Leger page, I thought I'd leave it here as well. I don't see the real need for page rank for those of us who are internet marketers and also have blogs we maintain because most of our promotion is self-promotion in communities.

"Many would say google itself doesn't even know why they do what they do some of the time"
I think we can all agree on that one .. ; ) and your right about being a waste buying high PR links, same as it`s better channelling the $49 a month to better use somewhere else rather than using 3WayLinks ...

Pagerank is much overrrated. Besides, whose pagerank do you want to shoot for. Every major search engine has its own algorithms and criteria for page ranked. Not every body searches Google, either. Many people use Yahoo, some use Ask.com, still others use MSN. This is the reason why your metatags and keyword conent are so important. Regardless of yor pagerank, if your metatags are in order, you can be found on somebody's first page some time.

Opinions do differ on how google defines its search results. Many would say google itself doesn't even know why they do what they do some of the time.
With all the linking strategies available today, i would say spending money on high PR one way links is really not necessary and a waste of resources that could be spent in alternative areas. IMO

G`day Eric,
well i`ll have to disagree on the "PR 4 site you are talking about would more likely be a PR 6", as you say, there are more than just links to consider. The PR6 site could simply have been around a lot longer ... lol ... and anyway, PageRank is so out of date (3 month old info, maybe more) that it can`t be anything more than a rough guide at best .... this is why buying links to high PR websites isn`t advisable unless you really research the website in question and know

".... that isn`t the case at all, that PR6 website may have alot of links directed back to it that are low quality and have very little content on the search term you stated whereas the PR4 website may link to very few sites, but those websites are about the exact search term involved. Therefore, the PR4 will rank higher in search terms ... correct me if i`m wrong ... LOL ; ) ...."
Hence the PR 4 site you are talking about would more likely be a PR 6 due to the quality of the

G`day,
well I won`t join Mr Ledger`s site, he wants $47 a month for his "service" ... it`s a bit "black-hattish" also and i`ll take this man`s advice anyday over anything JL has to say ...
http://www.seobook.com/archives/000467.shtml
I have no doubt it works, but i`ve not seen a positive review of it from anyone unless they`re actively involved in marketing the concept ... in other words, proper true SEO experts stay clear of it from what I have gathered from the tiny bit of research

It all depends on the Keyword/s being searched.
If your site is optomized for the Key word tag "Certified Organic Skincare" and you have a PR of 6, your site is likely to be seen before a site with PR 4 on the search results page (For that exact search).
However if a site is optomized for the keywords "Organic Skincare" and has a PR of 2 it would likely show BEFORE a site with a higher PR (that is opomized for "Certified Organic Skincare") when a search is done on "Organic Skincare".

Looks excellent, but it also true that other options are available. Does everything happens automatically there? I hate traffic exchange sites where you have to do all manually...
So, To join or not to join you site?
What do you say Christopher? Will we use Jonathan's service?
Thanks

Since it's not accurate and should really be for entertainment purposes, why not use emoticons?
:o = nofollow being used
:( = not indexable
;) = PR1-3
:) = PR4-6
dancing banana = PR7 or higher
Just kidding folks, but it would provide a more entertaining experience...hehe

I don't know much about page rank, but always thought that the higher the better, so you have enlightened me by teaching about a subject that I am green on but learning more about daily: content, tags, keywords, etc.
Thanks, Stephen

G`day Max,
little Johnny Ledger self promoting his latest thing aye, ah well, here`s a link to more valuable information than JL will ever provide you with ; )
http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/3416514.htm
That`s from a link someone left in a message to the blogpost you gave, no surprise to see that little link at the end of JL`s post to his 3 way linking escapade ... Google will no doubt jump on that and end it so i`m steering clear of it till someone more qualified in
