Trouble For The Popular App Uber

The app Uber permits everyday people to make money by using their car as a taxi for other users. The taxi drivers is paid as an individual contractor, but in California the commission ruled an Uber driver was an employee. If more states follow then the company will have to pay employees benefits. Does this mean the end for the popular app, or will the cost of the service rise to compensate for the new employees?
